A noble cockatiel named hohenheim!
Once we get our own house, well adopt a cockatoo!
Hi!
I've had Hohenheim for about a month now. He lets me hold him but he runs right for my shoulder or the top of my couch where his favorite stuffed animal is at.
He's not very playful and he doesn't move around a lot in the day...he's also very grumpy for most of the day and sometimes bites my ear. I don't understand why he isn't very playful and why he bites me.. :yellow1:

I have one Umbrella, a Bare Eye, and two budgies.
Have you had him checked out by a vet? I wouldn't let him on your shoulder until he has earned your trust. How old is Hohenheim? My bare eye cockatoo is nine and he is not active at all during the daytime. He comes to life at night and in the mornings.

If you haven't had him to a Certified Avian Vet for his first "Wellness Check" then you need to do this...

As I recall, he's only a very young Cockatiel, like 6 months old or so, so are far as the biting goes, he's being a young bird and testing his boundaries. So you need to tell him "No" whenever he bites, put him on the floor or his cage immediately, and turn your back on him and totally ignore him for 5 minutes or so...This usually teaches them very quickly what the rule/boundaries are...That part is normal and just him being a young bird in a new home...

As far as his activity levels, if I recall he also doesn't understand how to play with toys either, correct? If I remember correctly, the breeder you got him from didn't have any toys in his cage, nor did they use a "weaning-cage", so again, as far as him being "playful", you have to show him how to be playful, as he was never "played with" or given toys at his breeder's home, and he's a baby...

I'll add, if this is a "lethargy" or "sleeping all day long" issue, then this is indicative of a serious health issue, possibly an infection of some sort, and that's why you need to get him to a Certified Avian Vet asap...

If it's just that he's not "acting like a typical pet bird" and isn't playing, or isn't playing with toys, then again, it's because he doesn't know how to do so...

Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
It took a little time for BB to start playing, and he was just 4.5 months old when he came home to live with Amy and I. Now he is a little over two years old and LOVES to play with his toys!

One particular toy is a set of shinny dice that hangs inside his house from it's roof. Especially just before I cover his house for sleepy time.he'll bang and slam those dice, while waving his arms madly at them and calling them all sorts of names! :p

BB also "nips" at my ear lobe  and it p.m.o. to no end! And he'll also "box" with it. Bangbangbang! It doesn't hurt, however, but it is VERY aggravating!! That was my mistake on not teaching him right away that that WILLNOT be tolerated!!!!!
