Still waiting on the last of Berry's cut wing feathers to molt...

So Berry came to me with clipped wings, even though I did not ask the breeder for it. My birds are all flighted. Her wings also weren't clipped properly - really she had only 4 wing feathers kept, so she would just crash to the ground (instead of gliding) when flying. I got her in October of 2017. After about 3 molts, she has recovered most of her wing feathers, but on her left wing she is missing two feathers in the middle, and on her right wing she is missing one feather in the middle.

She began to fly again once she had grown about half of her feathers back, and her whole personality lit up. She always displays her wings, and I can't wait until all of her feathers are back. I am excited for her, but I have no idea how much longer it will take.

It's interesting - just goes to show how slowly birds molt over time, how symmetrical it is, etc. It's been cool to witness it first hand.

Watching a Parrot Molt is akin to watching a tea pot boil or grass grow. The less you place attention on it, the quicker it 'seems' to happen. You are so very correct regarding the process. Far too many forget that reality of re-growth and the time required. As is said: Soon, just not tomorrow!

Beebs had a slight clip when he came home with me. He would flapflapflap like a maniac,get about a foot off the floor then lightly touch down . It seemed like forever for him to molt and get his long sleeves on.

Uh oh, I was under the impression my Skye would be getting her wings back during this (her first) molt! Luckily, she was clipped so she can fly a little but I guess I missed the memo that it would take multiple molts.

Congrats to Berry though! Hopefully it'll happen very soon for her.

Elvis only took about 4 months to regrow all his flight feathers after he was first clipped, but took about a year to regrow all his tail feathers.
Opal took about 7 month after her first clip. Jordan took almost 1 year after her first clip.
I'm still waiting on Skittles, it's been almost 9 months since I got her, but the rescue never told me how long she had been clipped.

Yeah I think it is entirely dependent on the bird. The thing is, it often takes a few months for birds to molt out all of their feathers, because they can't exactly lose a huge chunk and lose the ability to fly lol. It's such a gradual process.

In the first molt, Berry regained about half of her feathers, then the second and third molt a few more regrew. I hope that she will lose the last few feathers lol. Every time I see a cut feather fall out I get so excited!

If I remember correctly ( Hey! I have "old tomerz disease" sometimes! ) it took Beebers close to a YEAR for him to get a complete set of long sleeves after he lost his baby clothes!

Now he zooms around like a pro
