My favorite thing is watching them preen their tail feathers... it's just so neat watching the long feather run through their beaks and look so smooth and clean afterwards.

I could not agree more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When it comes to relaxing... preening-watching is as good as rain on the roof, Peter Paul Mounds, or a foot massage.

If the birds get into preening mode on their play perch I'll get up close and just watch. They are so used to me watching sometimes I sneak in a belly smooch and they just keep preening. I am bipolar, can get manic and my anxiety makes me sweat right thru my shirts in dead winter. But for a few minutes, when they are preening and I can watch, my mind stops spinning and life doesn't get me down so much.
