Recipes!!!

Hi everyone! I have been trying new recipes for my parrots! If you have any that your tiels have enjoyed, please share! I have been doing a lot of fruity recipes, ones that are tasty for humans too. Because being a parrot owner, I have realized my bad eating habits. I have realized how unhealthy I when it comes to food. So while making my babies extremely happy and healthy, I have also been making new recipes for my self. Ones that my fids love too! I can't seem to keep them from getting my food anyway. So why not eat things, that are healthy and my fids are able to eat?! So share some below, whether you type them in. Or you place a link. Either are appreciated!

tell me what jaden likes.......I has two GCCs and I just buy what I like, grapes oranges apples strawberries blackberries etc. and share when I eat....

what culinary masterpiece am I depriving my Gccs? (not being a dick I want to know!...if you have something jaden goes nuts for.) For some reason they don't like fresh bananas but love the stupid freeze dried chips.

This is what I give my eclectus as a primary diet and I offer it to my cockatiel too but he's still young and was weaned onto a dry mix and doesn't quite get chop yet. He'll pick at it on occasions though.

Zucchini, broccoli, red chards, green bell pepper, habenaro peppers, chille pepper, Red Lentils, Green lentils, green beans, yam, sage, thyme, oregano, cayenne pepper, Ceylon cinnamon, oats, chia, flax, pumpkin seeds, Milk thistle, bee pollen, rose hips, hibiscus, parsley, mint, lemongrass, lime leaves.

Lots in it, very healthy, don't know how good it would taste. I imagine it would be very spicy due to the peppers. But definitely something humans could eat too.

I suggest cutting back on fruits and making them a lower portion of the bird's regular diet as they are still very high in sugar and captive birds don't have the ability to easily burn off all that extra sugar.

Do you cook any of it prior to chopping?
I do offer Levi Zucchini & other winter squashes, but I always cook it first.
Also, I love lemongrass. I use it a lot in my cooking, but I’ve never offered it to Levi. Do you smash it first? How do you serve the Lemongrass? I haven’t given
habenaro or Thai chilies 🌶 yet. But, now I will. 👍🏻

I cooked the zuchinni, broccoli, lentils, green beans, and yam. With the lemon grass I used a cheese grater to shred it a little but it wasn't the best solution, this is the first time I've used lemongrass.

I chop up whatever veggies I happen to have and throw it in her bowl. Eat it or starve to death. Guess what, she eats it. I did the same thing with my kids when they were little with dinner. They could take it or leave it. They never starved to death either. I dont put up with picky vegetable eaters. Before anyone gets mad at me, my bird does get pellets and some seed as the main part of her diet. But she learned to like her veggies too. I dont do anything special with them, just chop it up and put it in her bowl.

I do not have any kids ( on purpose) but the same here: you parrots can eat it or not, If you do not like it today maybe you get more lucky next time...

I love that approach but as a new cocky mommy I'm scared of feeding my little guy foods that will make him ill. Will he have the sense to leave them alone?

Do your research before feeding anything you don't know it safe.

No, he won't know to leave it alone. If parrots had that sense, mine would have already stopped trying to chew on my charging capable. I now have to hide it. They would chew the skin off the capable, then just leave it looking really bad.
Always research foods you plan to feed to make sure they are safe and what benefits they can have, and what negative things they can bring. Although a quick search on google will reveal if something is safe or not, it doesn't tell you how it should be fed. Some things are only safe to parrots if they are cooked. So make sure to research, because some other things should only be given in small amounts.
You can never be too safe, especially with parrots!
