2 Budgies.
1 Cockatiel
Hi,
So i've been looking into getting a third bird. i'm a student with a single room appartment. I currently have 2 budgies living in here, they're both 2 years old. I have space for 1 more bird and was thinking about adding a cockatiel. it will just be 1 cockatiel, 2 would be too busy and just too much as i would have 4 birds in total.

Time free/ Taking care.
So, currently, with my 2 :whiteblue::blue2: (i think those are budgie emoji's), i got a lot of free time. i go to them a couple times a day to interact with them and am always there in the same room with them. I do currently still have college from 8:30 to 2 pm and volunteerwork at a bird foundation, but besides that i'm always there. College is also almost done, just need to finish a few things. i clean their cage weekly, one cage a week, on a rotation unless the other is so dirty they need to get cleaned up both in the same day, which ofc i will do. So i got a lot of free time to interact with a 3rd bird and train them as well as keep interacting with the other 2 birds of me.
Care taking, i'll buy some toys, will make the cage in tip top condition and will make everything looking fine etc. i'll take the cockatoo (or try to) with me into the shower to shower if possible after it has gotten used to me, otherwise the water tab in the kitchen will do the work.

Budgies Personality
So, i've got 2 birds.
Coco.

Coco is really nice, but can sometimes be a bit too much for my other bird, Witje. He can try to climb onto her chest and bring both to the bottom of the cage. I don't know why he's doing this. He recently did it more often after he found out that his bells in his cage where really fun to look at and after reading a online post of someone on another website saying that he might be trying to impress the bells and being mean to Witje because of this i've removed the bells. he does it less often now. But he's doing it for the last 2 years and despite wishing i could stop making him do that, i've got no clue why he's doing it in the first place. Not to say that he can't handle her calmly though, there are (and is as i am typing this) peaceful interactions between the 2 birds where Coco doesn't handles witje roughly. Coco is usually really wistle-y and really likes to talk to me while i talk back to me.

Witje
Witje is really calm. Sometimes i don't even think she's in the room. I got a shared space with a lot of toys for her but the only toy she chases is the toy with the destructable paper on it. She usually just sits and sleeps or relaxes. She can make some noice ocassionaly but doesn't does it often (not daily). She's a angel, not harassing anyone and (unlike Coco) Witje does allow me to kiss her on the belly. (yeh, i'm careful with spit and everything and my lips are always dry when i do this). She handles my finger carefully when i bring it to her beak and she's an absolute angel.

Financially.

Financially i've got some money saved up. i'm planning on moving to England by October which is a huge undertaking but i've got some saved up for that. i've got my current birds prepared for that with one a paw ring and the other a chip. as well as 2 bird passports. still looking into if i would have to arrange a certificate of health of the birds though.

I'm also planning on working during the upcoming summer vacation, July-Begin October. That will net me a lot money for care as well as moving to England. i'm still planning out the details and transportation but i will not put any of the birds in a plane. I am planning on taking them with me in a car or a minivan. something that can fit my stuff as well as the birds and me. i will most likely put 2 budgies together in 1 cage and if there is enough space or if it's doable all 3 of them in the biggest cage that i have.

Space
My apartment is pretty big, or at least, so i've heard. it's around 4 meters to 5 meters with decoration and stuff in it. I've got a small table which has space for 1 more cage. i've got 1 cage on it and another bird cage on a small cabinet next to it. My partner in England is going to look for a appartment later this year, before October so i'm not sure how that appartment will look like than.

Cage time or Free flying
I let the budgies fly freely throughout my room but will keep the cockatiel for a minimum of 1 week in the cage to get used to my current birds, me and the space. I also want him to get used to me and sit on my finger stable before i let him fly freely as i want to be able to put him into the cage to go to bed during late in the evening. i'm still looking around for a cockatiel to begin with so no age yet. I also let my budgies fly freely while i'm not home. with a cockatiel, i'd do that only when i know my budgies are nice and i've seen him behave in a room and i know that he has a spot to go to, relax at, etc etc.

Noice
Currently my budgies don't make a lot of noice. I'm not sure about the cockatiels but i'm -as i'm typing this- still looking around on the web for info, so yeh..

I was wondering if my current plan sounds stable and good enough to add a 3rd bird to my appartment. Also, if anyone has tips or comments about it.

Thanks anyway for reading,

Cheers,

Sven

Hi sven and welcome to the forum, it seems you already are taking excellent care of your budgies ive read your whole story and i wish you good luck with that , however woudnt it be a better idea to get the cockatiel when you are in England if thats a idea?. Im not familliar with the laws about bring birds with you while travelling to another country for all i know you will need some passports for the birds ( correct me if im wrong ).

There use to be a show on TV, I think it was called Animal Airport.
It was all about Animals passing through Heathrow airport or going to the UK.

I think every animal going into the country needs to go through quarantine. 30 days at least.

I think buying your new bird in the UK makes a lot of sense.

Yeh, you do. Luckily, getting a budgie chipped and a passport is only like 20-30 bucks here! not sure about a cockatiel though.

I just send a email to the Heathrow animal reception center. thank you for the info! Although i think 30 days without interaction is a bit much for the birds and they'll never forgive me for it!!!
