RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Cockatiel experts will give better guidance, but fruits ought be given in small quantities. Vegetables typically form the larger part of a parrot's diet.

Many cockatiels aren’t a fan of fruits. Ducky doesn’t like any fruit whatsoever. Nothing to worry about, veggies are better for your bird than fruits anyway.

B&G Macaw, Galah, 5 cockatiels, 50 billion and a half budgies. We breed and do rescue. Too many to list each individual's name and age etc, but they are each individuals and loved dearly.
Agree 100% with Birdies. The only fruits I have ever been able to get Alex to eat are the ones I don't want him to eat, lol. One time I was eating an apple, and set it down for a moment where I thought it was safe, and he was eating it thru the bars of his cage when I turned back around. Didn't realize he could reach it there lmao. But when I give him his own slice of apple? I may as well be trying to get him to eat a rock. No interest.

Tiels don't eat much fruit in the wild, so I don't really worry about it. If you want to give a sweet treat, try sweet potatoes/yams. Many birds LOVE cooked sweet potatoes/yams.

Ditto on this! It seems to be a general consensus that most cockatiels don't have much interest in fruits. I've offered Luna bird safe dried fruits and fresh fruit, even if she has an interest in what I'm eating, she doesn't want to take a bite.

I read an article yesterday, where a Macaw Owner, who was a treveling parrot show, often fed a large portion of the diet as fruit. She nearly lost one of her Macaws, and was lucky enough to get to an Avian Vet immediately, and after so many lab tests, and her honesty to tell the vet about the Macaws diet learned about the high concentration of sugar in the fruit, caused an imbalance in the birds metabolism, which almost caused the loss of her Macaw. Scott mentioned serving fruit in moderation, and I have to second that, due to the sugars. The trainer was using fruit before the shows, as it was a quick fix for a diet, then after the shows which sometimes lasted a good portion of the day would feed pellets and vegetable chop. If your bird is shying away from fruit, I would take that as a blessing, as it's not as nutritionally good as one might think. Fruits in moderation was what I gathered from the article. This trainer learned her lesson through very expensive lab tests and her honesty. I'm still trying to find the article, and if I do I will post the link for you.
