When I adopted Florence her wings were clipped, so she had poor balance. Finally, at seven months old, her wings have grown out enough to where she learned how to hold things with her foot! I am so so so proud!!

Ps. we took her to the vet and it’s not a medical issue, she just needed to learn.

Aaaa, that wonderful learning curve! In no time at all, she will be hanging upside down and view the world from a different angle.

Congratulations!

Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
I've heard 'teils don't generally hold stuff with their foot like other birdies do. I have never seen BB do it or even attempt and he is a pretty smart little guy. Good for Florence! she's going to surprise you with her intelligence :D

Same for me Jim! Luna doesn't do anything like that but tbh, I think it's such an endearing and fascinating behavior. I just assumed tiels didn't do that since Luna much rather put the food down on a perch. It is so interesting to see Florence doing so, thank you Birdieboy!

None of my Tiels tried to hold food in there foot until..... I brought Cheeky home.
He was the last Cockatiel I have purchased and he was holding stuff from the beginning.
My other Tiels saw this and most try (with poor results) to copy him.

It seems like tiels aren't known to hold things in their feet, I've heard. With a few exceptions! Glad that she's holding stuff in her feet! Baby has always eaten food with his feet. It's funny watching him eat a cracker that's bigger than his head!
