Is it possible to order a custom perch?

I know you can buy natural wooden branch type perches. My cockatiels are big chewers and they have plenty of toys and shreddables, but they still love to chew on their wooden dowel perches. Every bird cage comes with perches, that’s the perch that they’ve chewed. They’ve chewed through two perches. I think Lowe’s could make a wooden dowel perch for the cage, but I was wondering if it’s possible to get a plastic one?

Some bird cages come with plastic perches, which I like because they don’t chew on them, and I wouldn’t have to keep replacing them. They still have other perches and branches and bridges and platforms, but it’s comforting to know they have a constant, ya know? Something that can’t or won’t be destroyed.

Anyone know if I could order a plastic perch that will fit their cage? I want it to be like the wooden dowel perches that come with cages, it fits the cage.

Why deny them the enrichment that comes with shredding? This is often a GOAL of avian husbandry to get birds actively using their beaks - just look at the plethora of shreddablw toys on the market. It’s a good thing your cockatiels are shredding, keep it going!

If you have trees on your property you have a built in source of perches! Just research the type of tree to make sure it’s bird safe (oak=NO, maple=yes as a start).

As I stated in my post they have plenty of shreddable toys and wood toys. They also have different perches, bridges, and platforms. I would just like to have a plastic perch because when they chew on the wooden ones, it obviously breaks and they fall and freak out. I’d like to avoid that happening with a plastic perch.

Do they chew the toys and shareable?
M not a fan of plastic perches... Which aren't good for the feet, and not good if they chew them .

Yes, I read that. But I’ll reiterate that its providing enrichment your birds apparently really seem to enjoy, something dedicated owners are always on the look out for and encouraging.

Wood is always superior to plastic anyways. Look for stronger wood perches such as manzanita and java wood. Personally I’ve always viewed plastic perches...in a negative light when there are more natural alternatives.

Yeah you can get a custom perch from parrotwizard but you don't want a plastic dowel or dowels in general---anything overly uniform/smooth increases the chances that your bird will develop bumble-foot and that is not something that can treated very easily (once it starts). If your bird is chewing it, it means it needs to chew it (be it for entertainment or beak-trimming). If you take that away, you may see other, less-desirable behaviors crop up (depending on the motivation behind the chewing).

You have both maple and sycamore trees in your area, great for perches! Walmart caries a nice selection of hardwood perches at great prices! There is one chewable perch, wishbone shaped! My JoJo loves it for his sleep spot! I have to replace it every three months, but at $3, who cares!
