Omg i hate that guy so much(warning, touches on disgusting evil topics briefly)

The "person" we rescued 2 dozen birds from has turned out to have given YET ANOTHER big fat lie! The "hen" in the breeding pair of cockatiels is obviously a MALE. He is losing his pearling!! I had suspicions of this for a little while now, but it is super painfully obvious now that his pearling is being replaced with solid grey feathers.

I am beyond mad. I just don't understand how people can look you in the eye and flat out LIE to your face like that! Total SCUM bag!

What hubbs and I figure, is the hen of the pair must have died in his care and he wanted to make back some of his money and be rid of a problem, so he kept one of the pearl chicks(allegedly he sold the others to a pet store a few towns away from where he lived) and posted them as a proven breeding pair. We think the "hen" we have is the front and center light pearl in the attached photo... the photo he sent me of "their previous clutch". Hubbs pointed out it is actually a good thing that the bird is actually a male, as he is the son of the male and if he had been a she we may not have realized, and may have bred them together.

Attachment 23508

Well alright then. So we have 3 male cockatiels, rather than the pair and senior male we thought we had. Knowing they are NOT a bonded pair(and how young the "hen" is), I will separate them in the morning and make a push to tame the young one.

Oh, I am just so mad.

The people around here just boil my blood more and more. Not long ago we had someone insistantly trying to adopt an intact male dog from us and finally it became obvious(because they stated what they wanted the dog for) they wanted to abuse the dog *in that way*. I am beyond disgusted with the locals lately. Our friend who runs the cat rescue told me to send the info to the cops, because that is *finally* illegal in this state. *finally*. As in, up until VERY recently, it wasn't a crime here.

Chicken fighting is only a misdemenor, and only if you are caught *in the freaking act*. "People" also commonly participate in dogfighting around here!! Auuugh I am so disgusted by these "people"(monsters!).

Sorry, rant over. For now.

Re: Omg i hate that guy so much(warning, touches on disgusting evil topics briefly)

Now that I think about it, he warned that "tiels will overheat in the nest box and die if there isn't a vent hole cut in the box". I thought this was odd at the time, but there was a lot going on at the time and I didn't think too much of it.

I also thought the hen looked young, but dismissed that thought. "Her" crest just didn't look right for an adult tiel to me. Sigh, hindsight is 20/20. I thought she might just have had a poor crest. Grrrrrr

But me accepting it at face value did mean that we saved the other 22 birds about 2 weeks later. So I guess, good for the birds that I ended up dismissing my gut.

No matter where one is at, there are those people that cheat the system, other people, their own friends and family!

Sorry that you have gotten bitten.

It sucks that people behave that way - but I’m happy that those birds (regardless of gender) are now with you.

Yeah, I'm glad we have them too. It makes me worry more about babies born here though. How can we be sure, REALLY sure, they won't end up in situations like the one we got those 24 from?

Many of our friends in rescue have a strict "no locals" policy for adoptions. When we first heard about that, we thought it a bit excessive, but we are starting to reconsider selling baby birds to locals. The cat rescue lady DOES make some exceptions for the right locals, but usually the closest she will adopt to is Lexington. The shelter where we took Bella and another pit bull who we found running around in the middle of the road was just filled with horror storiea. Puppies with parvo, fleas, megacolon, and mange(the "breeder" was insisting they be given their dogs back, and the shelter had to comply since they had not been surrendered legally), etc etc etc. They said they could not post that the dog we found was a pit bull and say he was found in an orange harness, or people who were not his owners would try to claim him for the fighting ring. They don't even adopt to people in this STATE. They send their animals, all of them that they can, to out-of-state rescues.

I know people suck everywhere, but they seem especially bad here. Maybe we have just had bad luck, but more and more we have been discussing if we want to stay in Kentucky forever, or if we want to move somewhere else eventually(and where that might end up being).

I may be a bit insensitive or such at but this is the sort of people I am down on the most. Yes, me being a newby to the forum and knowing of the bad sorts out there kinda got to me, when I felt that might be thought of me; by some. I got offended and (for my part) asked straight out if that was what was implied. I apologized too. THERE ARE people like that in the world, dang it. That's what makes it soooo baddd. Anyhow, glad you have the birds and are glad to have met and joined you all on this forum. It doesn't hurt to have a bit of skeptism. jh

Re: Omg i hate that guy so much(warning, touches on disgusting evil topics briefly)

Alright, I have little Rin(I think we will call him that) in a relatively small cage on my dresser for now. Keeping him in the bedroom is not ideal for a couple of reasons, but I think it is a good place for now. He can hear his daddy when he contact calls, but they so far have not spent the day shouting back and forth. Poor baby is very scared, but we will get there.

I clipped him because he will be spending plenty of time out of his cage, and there are an abundance of hazards in this house. I'm kicking myself that I didn't realize how young he was when we got him, or I would have spent more time socializing him from the start(15 weeks or so we have had the tiels now, 13 for the budgers). I have never socialized a non hand fed tiel before, so this will be an adventure.

Yes, he will be getting a larger cage soon, but first I want to make some trust building progress, and figure out where his cage will ultimately be situated.

Jh, I never thought you were a bad guy. I could tell your intentions were good, despite your lack of experience.

Thanks and I apologize again for getting upset. It just hit me one time that could be one defense tactic of pet owners and "overall" a left handed defense. "I" assumed (hate that particular word) the possibility and went off; but I did ask. Thankfully I wasn't banned and realized that no one was making such an insinuation. jh

Re: Omg i hate that guy so much(warning, touches on disgusting evil topics briefly)

The bird who we are now calling Shin(daddy Hiro... the cartoon that we got Hima's name from has a 5 year old older brother character named Shin, and the dad character is Hiro) has settled down quite a bit now. He is an adorable little screaming imp. We already have a few "through the bars" games. He likes to lift his feet and show them to us, one after the other over and over. Of course, we encourage this by ooh-ing and aah-ing over his little feetsies, and copying the motion ourselves. He likes to whistle at us some times, but not quite all the time.

Alex is so excited about him that he immediately starts whistling at ME when we walk into the living room where Shin's cage now sits. Lmao Alex is such a dork. OMG ANOTHER COCKATIEL?? WHISTLE AT MOM TIME! Reet! Reet! Reet!

Shin likes to scream at Alex, scream at Hiro, and whistle at Freedom(she learned Alex is less afraid of her if she whistles at him rather than says "hello, hi" etc, and Shin apparently feels the same way). Hima pretty much ignores Shin, and Shin does the same as she.

Shin uses his feet a lot more than Alex does. He holds toys to chew on them, etc while Alex's play style is more... shred, destroy, BANG THINGS AROUND. LOUD NOISES! And their whistles are totally different. Alex sounds like a bird imitating a person imitating a bird. Shin sounds like a bird. Shin also does not share Alex's love of stuffed animals, feet, etc lol. Don't tell Alex, but (Shin may be smarter than him).
