Hey everyone.
My cockatiel has decided to re nest and layed a clutch of 3 eggs ( so far) on the floor under my Hahn's macaws cage.
I have 10 birds, a few different species and they live in my bird room.
I have had to move one bird out the room as he kept pestering her and she abandoned her last few fertile clutches.
My macaw has gone under the cage once and disturbed her a little but he hasn't been near her since.
But I'm worried and unsure what to do once the eggs hatch due to location of her nest...Will the other birds start to be nosey and pester her and chicks once they hatch and will it be safe for her to rase them under there?!.
Or should I move chicks once they hatch in to the parents cage and lock chicks and parents all in together for the first while? (P. S all the birds tend to go in and out of each others cages) .
Or once they hatch move chicks and parents out the room together to be left in peace?.
Or should I leave things as they are?, I would hate for any of the other birds to do anything to the chicks once they hatch!. :white1:

Why don't you try getting a nesting box for your cockatiel so she doesn't have to wonder around looking for a place to lay her eggs? If (and when ) she is laying eggs, keep her in the cage and don't let other birds get at her......except her mate or father of the chicks.

but a nest box will encourage laying as well, but wouldn't let her run around all over laying either

Thanks, I didn't have any breeding boxes as I dont want to encourage any of my birds to breed.
I have ordered a box but its still hasn't arrived and don't know when it will due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is why I was asking what I should i do when the eggs hatch, and if the box does come before they hatch will she tend to her eggs once in the box or abandon them as she's never encountered a breeding box before.

so these are fertile? Do you want them to hatch? Siblings WILL mate with siblings once mature and that creates genetic issues...so will you be able to house them separately and supervise them when out of the cage to prevent them from doing the exact same thing from happening?

If fertilized, you can boil the eggs and return them to your tiel once they have cooled (put a small mark on each boiled one in pen in case she lays a 4th). This way they do not develop but she can still sit on them (leave them until she loses interest).

If you have no intention of hatching them, she doesn't need a box...If they are not fertile at all then she def doesn't need a box.

Birds can lay eggs that are NOT fertile, so you have to know if she was around a male at any point and if they could have mated..otherwise, these eggs will never hatch because (much like a chicken) parrots can lay unfertilized eggs when hormonal....only it is much more risky for a parrot.
