So my female 'tiel Ghost has started calling to be mated. She has never had access to any sort of dark space or any nesting materials. Never been given more than a scratch on the head/back of neck. Overnight change in behaviour. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get her out of wanting to be mated?

Sure time will eventually get her to calm down but at the moment she is not getting any contact nor time out of her cage because of this. Seems a bit rough to get trapped because of a biological imperative.

You could try moving her cage, or moving stuff in it. Reduce sugary foods.. 12 hours of sleep...lots of activity--avoid too much full sun (you don't want multiple hours of super bright sun in a hormonal bird) but prevent shadows during the day. You might also consider the influence that the proximity of other birds could have on her.

What noodles said. I’m dealing with a madly hormonal lorikeet right now and I find PLENTY of exercise is pretty much the best antidote. Mind you as a nectar eater she’s always VERY high-octane!
