I took Lucky to the vet yesterday.
He is getting to be an elderly Tiel.
Acquiring him in 2001 or 2002 and an adult at the time he must be 21 years old minimum.

He has been having sneezing fits.
They are totally dry/no mucus. And go on for 30 seconds or longer.
Several times a day.

Vet gave me instructions to dilute a small amount of Benadril for children in water. I don’t have the exact info ATM.
Vet could not find anything really wrong, nothing wrong in/with his nars.
His weight was good.
Bacteria throat slide had no gram - bugs.
I tried suggesting a nasel rinse (don’t know right term) but he didn’t hear me or ignored the idea. Dealing with the vet via cell phone is not ideal.

Has anyone else tried this?

I have also moved the humidifier from the big bird area to the Cockatiel area.

Julio gets a sinus flush at least once each winter, commonly after or during an extended extreme cold spell (low humidity). Cell Phone Vet Care Sucks!

Salty's had nasal flushes 2x. Once when I first got him, to help clear a nasal infection, done by the vet. One other time, I did it on the vets recommendation; not something I want to try again! He hates it = bites and bad attitude afterwards.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I had an amazon with chronic nasal infections that required periodic flushing. She was quite old and severity increased over time. Hope that is not the case with Lucky, but in any case the issue was manageable.

This is the second day of giving Benadril to Lucky.
So far no significant change.

What worries me about a nasel flush is how traumatic it might be for him.

I was never present during nasal flushes with Sally, old vet did such things incognito during drop off. Cannot imagine a bird enjoying such treatment, and they probably need to be fully awake during procedure.

I've done nasal flushes under the direction of my vet. I don't think they are that stressful for the bird, when done by professionals.

Hope your baby is ok

Have you ever used Benadril with your birds?

I think he is sneezing less. Now he has been up for a time and no doubt drank some of the spiked water his sneezing fits are much shorter.

Really never been a believer in 'spiked water treatments.' No way to know how much they get any given day.

The very short time it takes to flush Julio has me believing it was so quick he barely had time to get mad about it. A couple of sneezes and he was find.

Never used benadryl. Feel unlikely that st 21 years would suddenly develop allergies...

Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Never tried to flush anyone's noses...Amy would leave me with four fingers. Doc Kristin did it once when he had growth/cyst on his nose.

Maybe Lucky is getting allergic? It IS springtime..I hope the old man feel's better quickly Wes :)
