I have two quakers and am thinking about getting a citron crested cockatoo ? how loud are they in comparison to a quaker ? I mean if I can handle a quaker screaming , then could i stand a too scream ? also I had a moluccan that belonged to my dad when I was a little girl and I remember his screams . So anyone having exp please answer and yes I have visted mytoos .com and that really did not give me any info other than the molucan scream . well thanks for looking and any help you might be able to give me .;):white1: Okay I appreciate the answers so far but I need someone to answer who has exp with both birds , quakers and the citrons and are they on the same noise level ?

Yep, they can be very loud. I have heard a screaming quaker!! I hope your neighbors are not too close to you.

My experience with a U2 is that they are quite loud....can be heard at the neighbor's house through walls, windows and doors. Not sure how loud a quaker is, but 'toos have some lungs!

I have lived with both... Citrons and Quakers. Somethiing you need to keep in mind is that as a rule citrons voices are much louder than a quaker screech. However, each bird is unique and I have known quiet toos and quiet quakers, and noisy toos and noisy quakers. The key to remember is this.... I can't stand the constant shrill chatter of the quakers and their voices irritate me, toos tend to scream here and there and so they don't bug me as bad. But after our fire when our birds were housed together temporarely the toos scream would completely overpower the quakers in the moment that they would decide to scream. If you have close neighbors they will certainly hear a cockatooo when he/she wants to be heard.

I'd say about 4 to 6 times as loud.... especially with certain display screams that cockatoos are infamous for :)

We had a goffins and a citron, the goffins was loud, to say the least. Umbrellas are louder, citrons(at least ours anyway) was not only louder than both a goffins and a U2, but it was this obnoxious screeching scream that would pierce your eardrums. It's kind of hard to explain, I wish I had some footage or something, but the tone our guy had was far worse than how loud it was, it was just one of horrible sounds that really goes through your head. Granted, we got used to it and luckily if we covered him for a minute or two he would quiet down, unlike our goffins, she didn't care if she was covered or if every light in the house was off, if she wanted to yell, she was going to yell lol. They don't seem to be quite as loud as the moluccans but like I said, the pitches that he would hit were quite obnoxious. If you don't have any close neighbors or young children and you yourself can handle it, it's really is bearable, although not pleasant. I have no idea what a quaker sounds like(unfortunately they are illegal here so I don't think I have ever actually even seen one in person), but I would be hard pressed to imagine that that small of a bird could compare to a citron, although I'm sure it's possible. And I have to add, these are merely my observations from the birds I have cared for and interacted with, there are always exceptions, we adopted our bird expecting her to be quite loud(and in fact she screamed the first hour we were at her old home) but she has barely made a peep since we have had her and hasn't screamed once, go figure. You could always get lucky and end up with one of the few quieter 'toos but I definitely wouldn't count on it!;)

I had a citron and my macaws can be loud at times but when the cockatoo was playing and screaming with excitement my macaws would cringe including me very ear piercing.

I do have two cats -Riply & Nano bites-
four snakes- china, dip & stick, and Grand Chahee-
I worked at a shelter until just a few days ago, the experence I had with Lary (Umbrella Cockatoo) was that he was kinda loud, but nothing like bob (Moluccan Cockatoo) I could handle Larys outbursts, but he talked in compleat sentences and when he yelled it was mostly curse words.

Bob the pink one didnt speak, the most I heard from him was a halfhearted "heiii." but he could scream, a good 50 feet away he nearly had me on my knees.

The voice of a Citron is several notches lower than Mollucans or Umbrellas... it tends to be more akin to a goffin scream which is stil several times more intense than a quaker.
