I also see that they are feeding wal mart seed to this poor thing as well . Ugh !!! Any good person knows you dont feed the bird wal mart seed . The reason I know this was because I rescued a bird a couple of years ago and the lady handed me that very same jar . I threw it out when I got home and went and got the bird some healthy seed from a locally owned pet store . Yes I will bet you any money he or she is stolen and also 1800 $ ?? wow . I think i would report this ad if I were you .

Yeah, it's DEFINITLY stupid. And craigslist also doesent allow selling animals, only a 'rehoming fee' (which everyone uses as a sale price) that's DEFINITLY too much for rehoming assurance.

I can't think of any cockatoo that sells for $1800.... maybe moluccans, but that would be the most. I see stupid bird ads on craigs, ist all the time.

Touche on the red tail black price... I don't usually think of black cockatoos in the family of toos. I get so used to the birds one commonly sees in the pet trade, and while I do see the occasional black too, I forget people own them in the pet trade. That being said I'd wager the gang gang is more costly then any of the traditional black toos... but who knows, I've never seen a gang gang in a private collection (although I know they exist.) The last black palm I saw died recently from a series of poor owners and a few vet mistakes. But that's been at least 4 months. Up here common cockatoo prices are as follows

Major Mitchels... 3500
Rose breasted... 2000
Mollucan..... 1800
Umbrella .... 1100
Bare eyed... 900
Slender billed....1000
Galurita Galurita (if you can find one)... varies
Citron...1300
Sulfer cresteds.... vary 1300 - 1800
Black palms... 10,000
Goffin.... 900

We don't get red tailed black toos up here, so I'm not sure what they sell for. Either way I'm off topic... sorry. I saw an ad recently that just said "bird"... no additional information. I've seen cockatoo spelled Cakatoo, I've seen Grey spelled gray... I've seen "parrot bird". I make it a rule never to do business of any kind with people who cannot spell the species they're breeding. Might seem stuck up, but seems to save me a lot of heartche.

Actally, that is the normal price around here, though most adds keep the price like that to themselves until you email them. because of the very few birds around here other than chickens, prices for pet birds skyrocket.

Wow!!! That is so cheap! Seeing that price around here would lead people to believe there's a serious problem with the bird! The absolute cheapest I've seen is about a thousand for an untame, violent, one legged cockatoo, and that was CHEAP!

Wow.... cockatoos are that expensive over there?
Major Mitchel = $500 ( Australian dollar )

And I've seen them sell for that much in my town.

Thats INSANELY cheap!

Because they are native to the place :)

Alex cost me twice what you guys would have paid for a jenday over in the US.

You can pick up sulphur cresteds for under $100 sometimes. Galahs too. Their is still some (legal, under government licence, though I bet people do it illegally too) taking of birds for breeding stock from the wild here, especially of the more common species. They are abundant in captivity and the wild, it keeps the price down. Though rarer protected birds like the red tailed blacks are extremely hard to find in captivity, require a wildlife licence to keep and are illegal to take from the wild, and are as a result more expensive.

How much would you on average pay for a B&G macaw over your way? Around here its more in the range of 5-6000 from when I was looking. Hyacinths can be double and above that.

Native cockatoos (with some exceptions, like the red tailed black), lorikeets, and plenty of other natives are not very expensive here.

Wow, I bought lily for $80 and that was the cheapest price I could find... And she's just a cockatiel! Around here macaws go for about 1000 or more unless someones trying hard to get rid of them. Of course, we don't have wild birds like that around here, so they would be more expensive, though seeing a cockatoo for under $800 is like a whiplash of a cheap price.

Also, surprised about how active this topic is!
