NO NO NO NO NO NO! I would never let either of my two get into the beans ... hell, I wash my hands after making coffee in the morning so if I have gotten any of the gounds on my hands it doesn't transfer to the birds.

No definately no coffee, beans or otherwise. I know you didn't give this to him, but please make sure that they are kept well out of his reach, especially now that he is becoming more adventrous. You're gonna have to keep a close eye on him now, he could be into all sorts of things. :D

Funny you should say that.
I came out and found him wandering round the kitchen unattended Last night.
He has never left his perch by choice up till now.
He seems much more confident lately.
I bought in some leaves and branches from outsideand he chewed the nuts and seeds off it.
Should I assume if the bird wants to chew it, its NOT Poison?

Never assume that!!! Tons of animals come in to vet clinics all of the time who need medical attention from eating poisonous things, including plants! They don't instinctively "know" that certain plants or foods are bad for them, they've been raised inside with food always just provided to them, never learned what NOT to eat...You would think it would be obvious to dogs not to eat rat poison, but tons die from doing that all the time...be careful with what Skippah gets into....:(

I have this "ex" who worked at a vet clinic and would tell me all the time about dogs getting into BATHROOM trashes and eating things (female things) that they might find in that said container and then they would have to go in for surgeory to remove the pieces of cotton that had wrapped around thier intestinal track ... No, animals do not have that type of instinct ... that is why we must watch out for thier well being ...

Too much on the visual example there Tex.
I am stuck at work, not knowing what that damn bird is doing.
I may have to feign illness to go home and check up on him.
It may be my imagination, but he seems taller and more manly lately.
He is looking around more, and shows more interest in events around him.
Maybe it was the coffee?
Edit: Im home now.
bird is happy.

Ok new problem.
While at work, the bird went for a wander and found my "other" seeds.
The special seed that I only ever plant in the spring.
Chewed through a wooden box to get into them.
I know that budgie breeders feed the dreaded "erb" seeds to their birds so I am not too worried, but He has wolfed the bloody lot.
Looks like slim Pickens for next years crop of "personal" however.

I am now worried for my 200 hundred year old Grandfather clock,...its made of wood,... a nice soft chewy wood.

Right this was my only worry when you said you had taken his cage from him, he has gained so much more confidence than ever before and he's gonna keep gaining it now, especially now that he knows just how much fun it can be. He WILL eat/drink ANYTHING that takes his fancy, he doesn't know what is and what is not a good thing for him. He WILL be chewing on that Grandfather clock as soon as he realises he can, which could be anytime now.

Do you have another room in the house that he can go to when you're at work where he can't get up to too much mischief? If so I would put in a stand, toys and food then take him in there with you while you are still at home, just so he can get used to the idea.

If you look around your home its amazing just how many dangerous things there are in it that a bird could get into and given half a chance the will.

Im out of the house for about 6 hours a day.
I could put his perch in the bathroom.
I spent 4 hours in that bathroom last Saturday morning,....it wasnt much fun.(hang over).
I dont facy shutting him in the bathroom for 6 hours.
He may have to come to work with me.
I didnt take on caring for him to put him under lock and key.
maybe An outdoor Aivery for 6 hours a day.
Birdee day care?

Another idea is forming in my head,....follow me on this one,..... Play gym for animals?
There is money to be made here.

A simple fix would be just bringing the cage back into play :D

If he fights you on it, you just got to take it like a man

Yes and I believe people are already making money on it, since there are already playgyms out there. :)

I agree with Chi. It's in the best interest of your bird to keep him in a safe place whenever we are not there to supervise them. Is the cage on casters? Maybe you could just roll it away whenever it's not in use.

The aviary sounds like a great idea, he'd be safe and you'd know your furniture was gonna be intact when you got home.

I agree...plus it's amazing what being outside does for them. It really brightens them up and they become so animated.

How does a bird with no where to go, tell you he is not interested in your company? He just turns his back and pretends your not even there. if Imove in front of him,... he turns the other way!
How rude?
He used to sit on top of his cage when he felt like this. Now he just uses passive resistance,....Ghandi style.
Still better overall howeva.
