I currently have a 1yr old umbrella. She is so spoiled!! I decided to adopt a goffin. I am picking her up tomorrow and I'm so excited. How do i introduce the two? No i am not putting them in the same cage...

Here is my baby!

Well you should quarantine the new one for 1-3 months in a separate room or q different part of the house. My vet this week said that 3 months is best but the minimum time is 1 month to make sure that your existing Umbrella doesn't catch anything from the new Goffin just in case it would be carrying something. Yes, Umbrellas aren't usually great talkers. They can say just a few words. hi, hello, things like that.

Umbrellas and goffins aren't big talkers as a rule.... so that's perfectly normal.

You need to be extra careful with two cockatoos (extremely prone to jelousy).

They can lash out and do a great deal of damage to eachother before you can stop them.

Remember not to favor the goffinover the umbrella when you first get it home. Put the goffin away and let it settle in. Take the umbrella out and reassure her that she isn't being replaced. The umbrella is most likely to be the aggressor ( although watch the goffin). Do the intro slowly... let them see eachother... and after the (hopefully quarantine) and the goffin seems settled slowly put the cages a little closer together (leave at least 12 inches between the cages and watch for any aggression toward eachother when they are in their cages.)

Play it by ear (you should be able to read your own birds behavoir).

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE TWO NOT BE ALLOWED TO CRAWL ON EACHOTHERS CAGES ESPECIALLY AT FIRST!

Here is the only problem. My too's cage was so big we didn't have a choice but to put it in our living room. The Goffins cage can fit in my bedroom, but i usually get my too out and lay on my bed and watch tv while she lays with me. Should I stop doing that since I will have the goffin in my bedroom? Most of the time she wants under the covers and she will just stay there.
