I hate the idea of taxidermy. I find it creepy and unnerving - and I'm most CERTAINLY against it if the animal has not died from natural causes first.

Its a Major Mitchell's cockatoo, I've always wanted one. I'm not sure if that is one of the species on the cull list in Australia but I highly doubt that the bird was killed for taxidermy purposes. Even if it were wild and untouchable it would still be worth more alive.

Yeah. Thats kind of creepy. Taxidermy can be great for scientific purposes (ie, museum exhibits) but why on earth anyone would want a taxidermised bird is beyond me.

On the other hand it is considered an art, and i suppose it's no worse then some of the stuff we do to animals (eating them, wearing them, etc) but still, urgh. Not my cup of tea. I prefer my parrots alive and happy, not dead and mounted. :)

Sprite the cinnamon green cheek conure.
I agree with molcan2. The bird most likely died of natural causes.
But I still think taxidermy is pretty creepy. I was watching the show "American Pickers" and this guy collected taxidermy stuff D; He had a taxidermy miniature HORSE O_O
It creeped me out.
That is a major mitchells 'too, those are really cool.

I grew up with mounted animals, my Dad loves to hunt so this doesn't really bother me. I am guessing it was someones pet and this is the way they wanted to remember it. Then that person probably died and now someone is trying to sell it.

Sorry, devil's advocate here. While I think taxidermy is creepy and disgusting, I can appreciate the time and, yes, talent it takes (same as Amy Winehouse or Lady Gaga). There are lots more pet owners that we want to admit who taxidermy their pets who've passed on. I'm sure there are lots of people out there who would love this sort of thing. Collectors of the odd, macabre and unusual would love it.

For some reason, I clicked on this even though I read the title.
So sad. Everybody has their own opinions, but for me, I would never do that to one of my birds if they passed away. I would rather remember them happy and bouncing around rather than look at the stiff body of my beloved bird.
