Latest habit.

I started to take Skippah into the bathroom for showers, now he seems to want to be in every room I am in. He doesnt seem to want to get there under his own steam. He just screams till I come and collect him off his perch and take him to what ever room were in. Its a One day old habit and I plan on breaking it real quick.
Seems to me Skippah slips into routine very quickly. I can maybe use this to my advantage. he also seems to be taking advantage of his unclipped wing. He has become insistant on sitting on the pelmet in the lounge. i can see this as becoming a nice high vantage point to poo upon us from, so if I cant dissuade him from going up there, I will consider clipping his wing again. Wont be my 1st option though. He seems to get a kick out marching up and down along the pelmet. There is nothing to see, but he likes marching in one direction in 6 long slow steps, only to turn at the end of the pelmet and skurry back the the other end like he saw a mouse, then turn and march back in big slow steps,.... then turn and skurry back. I could sit and watch him doing it all day. (I have done) He actually seems like he is having fun, but I dont see the game. I worry that repetitive bahaviour may not be good for him, but I dont see the harm yet. He is much more social since we banned the cage, but much more demanding also. Demands more attention, more often. Thats not a bad thing,..yet.

He seems to be pushing his luck, I'll scream to see if Dad will come and get me. Will he make any attempt to come to you if you were to call him???? Don't blame ya on breaking that habit real quick.

He does seem to have more mischief to him now that the cage is gone, its kinda like "I can enjoy myself without having to worry about that cage" I say good for you for being able to read your fid so well. If anyone can get this guy playing I'm sure you can. Good Luck to ya. I'd love to see pics of him doing his victory stomp along the pelmet. Sounds hilarious.

Re: Latest habit.

He is getting very cheeky indeed.
We are having an arguement about the pelmet as I type. I keep making him step up and go back onto his perch, but he just flies back to the pelmet quicker each time till were chasing each other. I dont have a problem with the pelemt as such, its just the height issue and aloofness it creates. Debbie finds it anti social and doesnt like that she cant get to him, so he cant stay on the pelmet. pity,....he seems to like it there. He is marching as we speak, up and down the pelmet. Its almost like he is trying to get me to chase him off. Im not playing that game either.
Edit: in answer to your question; He wont fly to meet me, but he will call out and shows an interest in hearing where the reply is coming from. I can see the idea to join me is forming in his head, but the confidence is still lacking for free flight round the house with 2 cats and dogs to worry about.

Re: Latest habit.

I wouldn't go pick him up while he is screaming. That just seems to be reinforcing the behavior. 'If I sit here and make a lot of noise, dad will come and get me and take me with him'.

I know it's been said several times on several spots on this forum, but try not going in the room while he is screaming. Wait until he is done screaming, and then go and tell him what a good guy he is.

Re: Latest habit.

Red just a thought, When my guys go on the pelmet I get some unfamiliar dog toys and place them on the top, that tends to keep them off, for a while at least, I just have to remember to change them. I do forget and then they get used to the toys and up they go again.

How would Debbie feel about dog toys on the pelmet? (also make sure there not the dogs favourite toys )

Re: Latest habit.

I move from room to room so often that he is often wondering where i am, not only why I am not with him. Seems sometime just calling back to him is enough. 4 calls is the limit. The rule is we only scream out more than 4 times if its an emergancy. Anything less is annoying, but livable. If he doesnt get a reply after 3 skreetches, he goes into rest mode. If there are 4 skreetches, he means he needs me in the room NOW. (it usually coz of the kitten licking his lips in front of the bird)

Coz its now 2am and Debbie says if the bird doesnt shut up, were both in trouble.
