My U2 is always so sweet
c494ddf5.jpg

Last Friday he got hurt really bad when he escape his lock cage Hovering around the garage that may hurt his leg muscle on his left leg maybe with an object fell on him (but no broken bones after close examination ) anyway he went to the house looking for me so when I found him limping I want him to put him on back to his cage to take a closer look but he immideately limp up to my neck so I try to put him on hands then without warning he bit me really really hard that almost crush my right index finger.
a40c793d.jpg

It hurts more than it looks
( I have a kidney stone every other year so I know about pain)
While he was biting me I swing my hands down from my neck to the table as
a reflex that may cause to injuring him more. After stopping the blood flowing
in my index finger I try to put him on his cage but he was so aggresive, so i
use a towel but he is trying to bite me again a drop him on the drop but he
flew then I get him to go to a large stick but with the same results, I tried
leather gloves but it agitated him more then after 30 minutes later I finally put
him in his cage. After the incident he doesn't like me to pick him up but allows
me to pet him. He also likes to hang out with my macaw,so I let him be until Today after hearing macaw gets really sick from u2 dander. So today i try to
transfer him to back to his cage I was trying not to agitated him so I gently let him step in my hands since he is still limping from the injury but bit me again that require to super glue my thumb because it's so deep.
Although He bites on the wood or anything hard to keep his balanced I though he know the difference with the wood and my hands.

I will get a metal gloves until he fully healed .
Is this because he is afraid losing balanced or he is still frighten from the incident when he was hurt ?
And will he be back to his normal sweet self or this is it? I should be satisfy just to pet him inside his cage?

I don't know enought about him to be sure but i would assume if it happened to my babies that they are biting me because they are scared and in pain. Even if there is no broken bones he could still have a pulled or torn muscle or maybe some internal bruising. If it is bothering him enough that his personality changes i would take him to see his Avian vet asap.

OUCH!!!!
Cockatoo bites are bad :(
I would have him checked out by his vet to rule out any injuries to his leg. The limp has me worried. You should also refrain from letting him wonder about or interact with your other bird. He could further injure himself or lash out on your B&G or you.

I hope he feels better soon keep us posted.

I think a vet trip is in order ASAP. I don't think you can rule out something being broken yourself ): .Even if not broken, it's severe enough for him to be limping, and that in itself is cause for alarm in my mind. Sounds like he is hurt and scared. If you had a busted leg you'd be pretty aggravated if someone tried to make you walk or do something to cause pain. He's no different.

I forgot to mention that he was aggressive too few weeks before the incident and looks like he was nesting.
I will monitor him couple of days if anything change although
His legs are getting better everyday and his leg bone are intact, he let me examined it all the time.

Thanks

How old is he now? The moodiness before the accident - maybe it's adolescent mood swings? I definitely would schedule a vet trip for tomorrow. I know when I am in pain, I feel more cranky, and I imagine that's the case with him, too.

He is 3 years old according to the pet shop.

Most Cockatoos can become somewhat unpredictable when they reach sexual maturity. Care needs to be taken to avoid biting attacks, such as not allowing the Cockatoo on your shoulder or near your face. A Cockatoo bite is said to be worse than any other parrot's as their lower beak has 2 points, resulting in a 3-point bite if delivered.

Darn I neglect to read this one:(

Update his leg is better but he still bite me,
good thing I have a triple gloves.
It's weird he let me pet him and feed him but he is still afraid of me but not with my kids
But I don't let them pick him up.

Will he be back to normal with me:( ?

I feel your pain. I has helping a family that has the same problem except their U2 went from loving everyone to biting anyone and everyone. I got along with her pretty well and they needed her to be put in another cage. I had to get her out of the cage and I wrapped her in a blanket. All was good until she got her head out and bite me three times super hard. I still have a scar from it after nearly 2 years. I helped the family out and what I found was basically feed your bird whatever its favorite food is while it is on a play stand or something else that means you only have undecided attention. This would help to show that you aren't a threat or to regain trust.

You may also want to try to get one of your kids to put your bird on your lap for short periods of time. Over time she should become more comfortable with you. That's just a random thought of the top of my head.

Your bird is gorgeous, but your wife has the right to be mad if he bites one of the kids!

I assume he is your bird and not a family one? You need to sort this out asap before it does become an ongoing issue. Because if he continues to bite and is a threat to the children, eventually either the kids of the wife will want him to go. Same thing happens with bad behaved dogs all the time (watch some "its me or the dog" for examples!)

Poor baby! I think a vet visit is in order too. Maybe the vet could give you something for the pain, which should help aggression caused by pain.

Homeopathic remedies are nice for birds because they are non toxic and if you give them the wrong remedy, it won't do anything. I have homeopathic arnica and rhus tox on hand at my house as part of my first aid kit (of course it's good for humans too). They generally come in the form of a little sugar pill, which you can dissolve in water, or just feed it to them (Puck drops them though). It's not a replacement for a vet visit, but it's something you can do on your own. Arnica is pretty great stuff. When I injure myself and take some immediately after, the bruises seem to heal a lot faster than if I don't take it.

it seems the cockatoo was probably afraid and hurting so he took it out on you and you probably lost his trust for some reason or another so just try to gain it back let him come back to you on his terms.

So damn cute & learning fast!!
Holy God… ouch!
I hope you bird has a full recovery, and I'm glad to hear his leg is getting better.
Hopefully your Cockatoo will come around, realizing that you also acted out of instinct.
Birds hold grudges, but they're far from stupid. I'm sure if you stay persistent, your cockatoo will realize you've always loved him!

Literally, I have no advice to give though. :D

I wouldnt let your kids touch him while he is in this sort of mood. They could loose a finger... Try searching for a bird behavioral spe******t in your area...

Is your U2 a male?
Do some research on male Umbrella & male Moluccan cockatoo biting.
I believe that I warned you about this several months ago right after you got your U2 and were letting your young children handle him.
