quick question

I do not personally own a cockatoo. My husband works at a school where they have a bird aviary. This aviary almost works like a rescue. Birds are brought to the aviary when their owners have passed away or can no longer care for them. At the moment there are only 8 birds there. The last addition to the aviary is a cockatoo. His owner was a young woman who has to take care of her mother and no longer has the time for the cockatoo. His name is Carlos. He used to sleep in the woman's bed with her and now can not sleep like a normal bird. My husband built him a little house to sleep in because he literally lays down when he sleeps and my husband did not want him to have to lay on the floor of the cage. He loves his new house, but my husband wants to put something soft in there for him to lay on. Would it be ok to use a pillow of something soft like that? Or would something else be better. We have no cockatoo experience and our Eclectus sleeps in her cage on a perch at night so if anyone has any info that would be helpful.

Re: quick question

Can you put in the shavings like they use with birds? I think it would be soft to sleep on and then it can be cleaned out.

Re: quick question

As long as it can be taken out and cleaned when necessary, a towel, or small blanket can be used. I rescued a Conure once who liked to sleep cuddled up in a towel. It would get messy, but, I washed it, and the bird was fine.
