Questions about Bare Eyed and Galah Cockatoos?

I'm considering getting a second parrot after my Jardine's I owned for 15 years died recently. Life just isn't the same without a birdy buddy ;)

Basically I'm in the research stages right now, going through the various breeds and compiling notes. I want to avoid birds like the Umbrella & Moluccan's which are known to be problematic for many keepers but I'm having trouble finding good information on the smaller cockatoos like the Bare Eyed and Galah.

I've seen some pages claiming that the Galah is very different from the big 'toos - that they're much quieter and not as needy. Obviously any parrot needs attention but as long as they need attention at a "normal" level like other parrots then that's fine.

I've been less successful finding information on the Bare Eyed cockatoo, but some pages hint that they too are quieter, less needy, and less stress-prone than the big cockatoos.

I'd really like to get some impressions from owners if it is really the case that these species are more like a typical parrot and don't have the difficulties that the Umbrella and Moluccan do. In your reply please be sure to make it clear if you're talking about the Galah or the Bare Eyed so I can keep responses straight.

Essentially I'm trying to be responsible and not bite off more than I can handle but I don't want to cut these birds out of the running based on a lack of accurate information either.

Thanks!

Hi there

I have both birds... I have never had any bad behaviour from either of them... They seem to have very similar personalities... Here in Australia they are often seen feeding together in the wild..

I have a Galah cockatoo and she's fantastic, affectionate, very intelligent and calm. Other Galah cockatoo's I've meet are super playful and and agile and get (happy)excited easily.
