Go for it. Go with your gut. I'd make an offer if it were me and I was able to. He looks absolutely adorable.

Yeah I'd go meet him and if you felt that he was right for you and your household then make an offer. You know all the up/downs of a too so yeah if you really felt you could cope then go for it. Good luck to ya. :D

Hey there Indigo, where you been, you've been missed round here. :D

The only thing that worries me about that is "Make a fantastic feature/talking point in a business that has a flow of people".

Kinda seems like he's not looked at as a 'companion', more as a commodity. Go with your gut though.

Peta, you know things have a way of working themselves out ... this abstract post here has me wondering ...

Circumstances around here have gone wack.
I may be a while.
Bart wont be joining our family anytime soon

If maybe our NZ and her new hubby have been hit by that dreaded disease, a lot of you know it first hand. It has symptoms for like 9 months and then they linger for 18 or more years ... some poor people get this disease twice, three times and some ever more in their lifetimes. I tell you, I don't know that this disease is any fun ... :18::18::18:

I think Tex is nervous to say anything because I came from a big family. Well, sort of. I only have 2 brothers, but my mother has 5 brothers and sisters and one of her brothers has 11 kids and we all grew up getting together all the time. Would I ever have that many kids? Absolutely not. Are all people crazy who have that many kids? I don't think so . Some people can do it right. Others can't. Its that way with everything in life.

I truly am convinced I'm losing my 'touch'! It took me three reads through this to 'get' what Tex-boy is talking about. Now is that a 'duh' moment? (More like a 'duh-century') Or what??

I've no children ... for good reason (little Anna-rugrats are not appealing!). And, like Peta, I think these people are Nuts.

In a world of hunger and strife, 17 children "And we are not done yet" ... ???

See, this is one of those "TOUCHY SUBJECTS" (not sure if I intend the pun or not ... ) I mean really who are we to say if these people are crazy or not? IF the children are being provided for, and are well taken care of, and can become independent, normally functioning, productive members of society in their adult lives why is this family crazy?

I pose this question to the forum- which family is crazier: the family that turns out 17 productive members of society OR the family that turns out one serial killer who eliminates 17 productive members of society.

I think that if parents can provide for their children, and the parents are happy - "Go forth and prosper." It is when the parents can not provide OR the children are NOT being taken care of is when the limits need to be set!

I think that family is crazy. It's a very stereo typed and old fashioned family, i don't think their Amish though. I know they are a very religious bunch however.

First of all their kids names start with the letter 'J'.
Girls can ONLY wear dresses. While the boys can ONLY wear pants and a shirt.
They are ALL home schooled, and basically have no social life.
They believe in the 'Buddy System', meaning when mom has a baby, and it is weaned she passes it on to the oldest kids to take of, and then goes on making another.
The girls can only do 'girl' things such as, cooking, cleaning, sewing, etc.
The boys can only do 'boy' things like, working, building, repairing, etc.
They have to make their own cloths, well actually more like the females have to make everyone's clothes.

Plus this woman wants to add more girls to the family to even it out. What happens if she goes and has another baby and she ends up with a boy, then she'll keep reproducing until she gets and even number. Which i find a lame excuse and reason to have children.

I thinks this family is irresponsible, and selfish. They are not letting these kids have a normal life, or even have friends. They are friends with there siblings. That is very rare. They are not aloud to dress how they want, i understand some people get carried away and can dress 'inappropriate' but they HAVE to wear dresses or 'slacks' and shirts, i have only worn a dress like 3 times in my life(excluding when i was baby because that doesn't count). I never see guys or girls my age going around in dress pants and a dress shirts and dresses, i mean most people in my school just wear jeans and a hoodie everyday. No one dresses up for school, unless they're from a private or religious school. No one gives a hoot what they wear even on picture day serously its highschool its not that important.

They should all have freedom. Plus on top of that they have to care for there baby siblings, i mean sure you have to help out, but taking on the entire mother roll when its weaned is just crazy.

Oh boy, sounds like we could have a debate about this one ... in a family of 17 I would argue that the social life of these children is probably more than yours! C'mon now do you have 16 close friends that you can confide in? I understand that you probably think that they don't have a social life like you do (going out with friends, etc ... ) BUT I would argue that these children are probably more social than you are, because THEY HAVE TO BE!

Tex, that's beside the point. Home schoolers do not AUTOMATICALLY have no social life. I have two wonderfully socialized nephews that are homeschooled. (I don't agree with my sister's religious views--in fact we are diametrically opposed on most issues ... but I can tell you that those boys are very well socialized, much moreso that most children I know).
