7yr. old Goffin cockatoo, she IS Sassy!!
A photo of Amigo hanging on window, checking out Sassy. A pic of Sassy still in her cage, before I cut her loose. I took notes this time while my daughter walked me through the process.

I so wish I could offer the freedom that you do for Amigo, Here it would be a total death sentence. :( He looks like he can't wait to meet his new buddy.

That's so amazing you give Amigo so much freedom, so many pet parrots would meet a bad end or get lost of we tried.

Sassy is so cute, is she the same goffins from Craigslist?

Sassy IS the goffins from Craigslist and is quite the character. I'm enjoying her tremendously. Amigo does have a great life, have to agree. There is a lot of risk involved but he is the most amazing bird and I have to believe it's because he's allowed to be his true self.

I need to add, I would not recommend free flight for most birds.

I just love seeing the pictures of Amigo free flighted!!!! It's just a shame there's no way to do that here without putting my birds in danger....Perhaps one day I will be able to do so if we move out into the country side with lots of trees....

As I understand it, Amigo was very unhappy in his cage, and they let him out... He didn't fly away, came home for meals etc... The reason he keeps coming back, is that he can't find another mate... Mare Miller is IT!

If you did the same in Australia, the bird would find a bird-mate, and you wouldn't see it again...

That is so FAR OUT! I did not realize that Amigo was able to fly free-- incredible!

And while I assume there is risk (I'm mainly thinking hawks and such) I really get it. He's probably the happiest cockatoo in the US :) It's why I let my cats out. I know there is serious risk, but I know how much it means to them.

I just LOVE the picture of Amigo through the glass, he always looks SO happy and excited about something.

Sassy is a pretty girl, looking forward to many more pictures of the both of them. To echo what others have said, I'm very jealous of you and Amigo, he truely does have it all. :)

Hi lene, I want you to know that I didn't JUST let Amigo out of his cage to fly away! It was a very long process to have him to where he is today. My husband and I made a conscious decision to free flight him, a very long and dedicated process.

He was my first bird and I knew NOTHING about him, I was trying to help a friend out with him. He ends up being a forever bird. We lived with Amigo for 2yrs. before, finally, realizing that this was not a bird meant to be captive.

We love Amigo, he is a big part of our family. It's a HUGE risk allowing your pet bird to fly free. There are many dangers out there. But to me,,his happiness, outweighs the dangers. This is my opinion.

One more thing...if I lived in Australia, I would be happy feeding cockatoos on my front deck!

I would love to read about the process you went through with Amigo.. I don't think you have written a lot about that, since Amigo was already free flying, when you joined the forum?

I heard about someone here in Australia, who had a Corella, which was very bonded to the dog... The dog slept outside, and the Corella wanted to sleep with the dog, so they allowed it... The bird eventually started to fly further and further away, but always came home for meals...
