I was trying to spend a bit of time with Skippah today, as I thought he may be missing out coz the Professor is just so darned entertaining. I popped Skippah on my shoulder and sat down at the PC. As is Skippahs preference, he hopped off my shoulder and onto the top of the PC so I can pat his head for him. I was setting up the PC so I didn't start patting him straight away, So he threw a pen at me from the top of the PC. I thought that was quite funny, and I looked up at him and told how clever he was. He looked back at me and walked over to the Card reader which also sits on the PC and bit though the usb cable, and then thinking he was on a roll, and before I could grab him, he bit thu the Phone charger for my mobile phone. The phone cable is 110 bux to replace, and a new card reader is about $30. So 5 seconds of a peeved Corella just cost me $140. 2 chomps and 2 severed usb cables. Im glad usb is low voltage.
I would show you a picture of the severed cables,but............

It is amazing the bite strength of some birds. For instance a Green Wing Macaw has a bite that registers over 1700 lbs per square inch. OUCH!!! That could take your finger off, or at least do some mighty damage.

Birdie beaks are a lot like scissors if you look at the edge of them, they are sharp by design and are great at piercing through softer materials.

Yep, that's a bunch of stitches right there ... I know a gentleman who has a Red Front Macaw and he was playing around with her (she is 100% bite pressure trained) and she just pinched the soft tissue in his wrist and she caught him just right and his thumb went completely numb for about 2 hours.

It's reasons like this that it is important that, as responsible bird owners, we take the time to bite pressure train all of our bigger birds. Heck, I have a GCC that can almost break the skin on my fingers and it almost exactly like getting your fingers pinched in scissors.
