Getting a Galah, seeking a little advice

Hello all,

I have been deciding on a bird for a long time. I have been reading and talking to everyone I can about them. I finally decided on a galah. I picked out my baby, she is almost 3 months old now, and incubator hatched so a little ways off from weaning yet. I am going to visit her at the store weekly.

She will not be a hip bird, and I know they learn what to expect early on so not to pour on the affection if you can't keep it up. She will be taught to play by herself as well with the family.

What are other people's experiences with them? I have heard they are normally quite affectionate (that's what I am hoping for, a little cuddler).

Thanks!
Mark

Thanks greycloud for re-linking that. It needs to be in the 'how to own parrots properly' handbook that we really need to come up with soon.

I'm not expert I will be the first to say that. But I give you information about my own experience with my galah Suki. First of all you do not need to take them home unweaned to get a good bond, I got Suki a bit after she was weaned and she loves me more than the earth it seems sometimes. And she is very affectionate. She just loves to spend time on my chest and shoulder, rubbing her head on my neck.

The other too owners would have better advice than me, but that was just my experience.

Well said, thank you for quick responses, you swiftly made up my mind for me. I edited my OP to reflect that. I absolutely do not want to risk anything going wrong. I will continue to visit with her until she is fully weaned.

We got Chewbaca at five months, and she has bonded to me, and to Greybeard. She bites wifey sometimes.

I got my Galah Rosie last summer and she's at least 20 years old and she adores me and no other women, it kinda makes me feel special lol. Other then me she prefers guys, goes to show you any bird can learn to love you no matter their preference of gender :)

Make sure they are weening her onto a healthy pellet diet and no seeds at all. Harrison's and totally organic are both great fantastic brands. Don't use the colored pellets.
