13yr. old male umbrella cockatoo,
we call him Amigo!

7yr. old Goffin cockatoo, she IS Sassy!!
The feathers coming off of my birds are, A LOT! I'm hoping it's only the heat of summer. Sassy started a couple weeks ago and Amigo being outside, well,, yeah, there have been more than normal feathers strewn around the yard.

Does anyone know if birds normally do their big molt in the summer? That would make sense, just don't know?

Now that my cockatoos have matured, they normally do a bigger molt in the summer. When Ariel was a baby, normally the big one was around february. But i think adult hormones have shifted it. Almost all my birds are molting right now.

I think that birds - like other animals - insulate themselves during the winter months, and then shed the extras, when the weather turns warmer... It would make sense...

Stella is molting , so is Rosie. Yoshi and Baby aren't.
