Galah vs BE2/little corella/short billed corella

OK let me try this again LOL

Last night I wrote all this out but it appears I pressed preview instead of post and as a result, the thread was never posted LOL OOPS!

I am getting a larger bird of some description, I had a galah some time ago who I loved dearly but I am pondering whether getting another galah might invoke unfair comparisons LOL
I am interested in little corellas (Cacatua sanguinea) and am wondering how they compare to galahs... anyone with experience care to share?

Are their noise levels comparable? Are BE2's as playful as galahs? Am I best to get a male or a female, I want this bird to bond to me however I want it to also be accepting of the rest of the family... not that my partner and I make any physical contact at all that may cause jealousy LOL

I have set up the covered patio (6m x 4m) with aviary mesh so it is fully enclosed as a play/flight room I am purchasing the largest cage available to me here in Australia (the same cage Tab xo has). Just waiting until I can find the darling who will be a part of our family

I can't really help. I took care of a Goffin's for a week and adored him. We now have had a baby Galah for almost two weeks and she is wonderful! Sure you'll get lots of great advice, good luck on your search.

I am leaning towards a corella personally but would love other peoples experience comparing the two I did very much love my galah.

How is little Rowan going? Settling in well?

I would also go with the Corella, only because of the urge to compare a galah with your previous one...

LMAO thank you so much for that The video was perfect because I was worried they werent as playful. I love how he is playing with it then he notices you watching... gives you a look and then slowly edges his way towards you while playing with it "look what I got, see, Im playing with it, bet you wanna play with it too" lol I miss the way my galah used to do that... then he'd throw it out of my range or run away with it. Funny little chickens!!

Im putting a deposit down on one now Now I just need to think of a name.

I have a Bare Eyed female who is about 7 months old. Before her I had a Nanday for a little over 25 years. Jake my Nanday was happy as a clam sitting on my shoulder or perch and watch the world go by. Aerial my Bare Eyed would explode if she had to sit still 30 seconds!!
She is fully flighted and is in constant motion. Absolutely fearless of anything. So much so I have to watch her. I have made it a point to encourage this though. Her schedule is never the same. feeding time, play time, even sleep time as I work shift work. Her toys are changed almost daily as I make most of them and he perches and complete cage is rearranged several times a week. She goes outside in her Aviator Harness and flys around, plays in the tree limbs and picks threw the grass.
She looks to me as her personal jungle Jim, climbing all the way from my shoulder to my calf and back up again. She will hang upside down from my hand or belt loop just like a bat wings hanging toward the floor.
Absolutely loves a shower! I have a shower perch which she sits on till I am done then she climbs on my arm and will walk into a full shower stream flapping her wings then folding them and shake. Repeat till I call it time. She then is wrapped in towel and dried before putting her on perch and dried completely with hair dryer.
With out a doubt she is bonded to me and prefers men to women. She will go to my wife but if I leave the room her contact call gets much louder even thought wife is in sight. She is not a screamer but she does give contact calls most of the time if in her cage and you are in area. These calls can make it hard to hear the TV on occasion but people who have a cockatoo know they can get MUCH louder than that. She is not acknowledged for any call or let out untill she is quite or giving what we call her "sexie" call which is almost like a child making a mess and saying "Oh O"!
Even though she calls MUCH more than Jake did I don't mind it near as bad as Jakes screams. The pitch just doesn't bother me as bad. A screaming Nanday can peal paint!! A Corella may be small but they are still a Too and as said time and time before a 2 year old ADD child! I love her!!

You sound like me jlockheart! I could not stand the scream of a nanday or a sun conure but the scream of a galah was fine by me! At first I would cringe, but when I realised he did it because he was happy it made me happy as well

I am nervous about noise. I am not sure if I am getting overly worried for no reason or if I have good reason to be worried. I have to keep reassuring myself, I had a galah when I was young and intolerant and I never had a problem with him LOL I should be able to cope easily with a corella now that I am older and more mellow.

Noise is something to seriously consider. Aerial is in no way quite. Once the lights go out about 10:30 she calls a couple minutes and is quite till what ever time we get up. However if I go to bed for work at say 7:00 and wife stays up she gives her contact call pretty much every 10d seconds till wife comes to bed as long as in the cage. Pretty much unless she's out she is vocalizing some way. Every once and a while if left in the cage she will throw a hissy fit for about 5 seconds. Just screams and attacks a toy. Like the stress builds and got to be let off. Actually funny to watch as she looks embarrassed afterwards! LOL

Happy for you that you made the decision. But I think choosing a name is almost as hard! Then half the names I wanted sounded too much like my dogs' names. Rowan is doing very well, thank you for asking. She has got to be one of the funniest creatures I've ever seen. But she does not want me to hold her or sit on my arm. She likes to be right by me and if on the floor she chases my feet and sits on my sandals.

Sorry I got off topic! We cared for a Goffin's for a week that had a louder yell but it didn't bother us after the initial shock! LOL! I finally got to see what you told me about Galahs the other day. We had our very first sunny morning in awhile and she was SO excited! She shrieked and flapped her wings and turned somersaults! I thought it was awesome but my dogs hid like it was thunder. LOL! And she is only loud once in awhile. She calls me when I'm out of her sight but I say "Laurie's right here." Then she is fine. Can't wait to see pics of your new baby when he/she arrives!

Loud calls? I did notice corellas seem to grumble constantly LOL Like lorikeets do, always making some sort of little rumbling noise while they are busy doing things. It really is hard to get a good idea of a birds nature because everyones opinion is different. Some might say a galah is noisy but I was say they are quiet with a loud call. But then I live in Australia where every bird seems to have an ear peircing call LOL The PeeWees (magpie larks) are horrible, they give me a headache :/ I think its because its very high pitched and repetitive.
I just hope my partner will be able to tolerate the calls etc... I am so scared he wont... then I will have to reconsider a lot of things, because I simply can not live my life without pets ... but I am more than happy to be without a partner!! LOL

I am thinking of calling him/her Shenanigans... Shena for short
After all, I did call my Galah Larikin, Larry for short

Ooooh my BE2 is the most playful creature I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is constantly happy and fully flighted... this equals constant flying around the house screaming about how wonderful life is lol after a few rounds he will touch down and pretend to be a dinosaur, its the most adorable noises in the world, when he isn't destroying anything he can reach or cleaning all our flat surfaces from glasses, handbags, knives, forks or anything lying on "his" tables, he talks up a storm. Most is gibberish, but that is so cute.

He hates showers and that makes him a pretty grayish Too. He gets misted 2-3 times per week, but that doesn't help a lot with his extra active lifestyle

In short, he is a real joy. They are awesome!!! (And there will never be a better name than Shenanigans to sum up their personality)
