My Cockatoos!

Hi! Sorry about my english, im not good in it. A dont know which category is good for me. Sorry if it is not good. I have two cockatoos, the male is Cacatua alba (white cockatoo) and the female is Tanimbar Corella (Goffin's cockatoo). Yesterday they had copulate. So here's my question: Can they have children? Or it doesnt work? Thanks everybody!

In doing a quick search online, it doesn't seem likely.

Pretty much most cockatoos can be cross bred, it just doesn't happen a lot.

It's possible they may have babies; there are things you can do to reduce this, remove nesting areas (dark boxes, holes they can get in to!) Reduce day light hours, so they don't think that it is spring time and time to breed. Don't rub their wings/bum area and try to take away any toys that they can shred too much of (to make a nest)

Your female may just lay infertile eggs and nothing more should come of it. Please ask again if I need to make myself more clear.

Csökkentse nap fény óra, így nem hiszem, hogy ez a tavaszi és az idő tenyészteni. Ne dörzsölje a szárnyukat / értéktelen terület, és próbálja elvenni olyan játékokat, hogy azok foszlány túl sokat (hogy a fészek)

A nőstény csak feküdt terméketlen tojásokat és semmi többet kell belőle. Kérjük, kérdezze meg újra, ha azt kell tenni magam látna világos.

Yes, it's possible. No known health problems.


It's an ethical and moral question as to whether or not you want to allow them to reproduce. Offspring *will* be hybrids and could not be put into a breeding program for pure species. That and pets typically don't make good breeders while breeders do not make good pets. There are exceptions, but short and simple, if you allow your pets to become breeders, they may no longer be pets.

Im not doing it for a reason (the cross breeding-thing). They live thogether with my family in home almost 8 years. In the beginning they dont like each other, but slowly they "fall in love" and few days ago they make "it". I dont want to sell or breed the babies, i only hope that i have little parrotbabies in my home, because little parrots are so sweet and they are JOY.

My husband search internet and now he carve a log for them. When he come back he read all answers ( he is better in english than me but he dont have patience to write here )

The Corella and Galah (pink & grey/Rose-breasted cockatoo) are know to cross breed even in the wild (here in Australia), So i would say it is very possible.

You said you don't want to sell or breed babies but you want babies and your husband carved a log for them to nest in?

First of all, nest boxes should be given unless you can carve out a door where you can open to observe to see if there's any issues within. When Cockatoos nest they will get VERY mean and you won't be sticking your hand through the entrance hole and they give really nasty bites!!!!

Second of all, do you know how to hand feed? This part is essential cause you never know what would happen when they have babies. They may not care for them and desert them. Do you even have the time to hand feed them? When they're young, you need to do a 24hr feeding period. Some breeders don't but I did before.

Third of all, what are you going to do with all the babies cause they will keep on having them? IF they even have fertile eggs.....You do NOT know what the new owners are going to do with the babies and I highly doubt most owners will keep in contact with you cause the ones that gets babies from me don't, only a few does. So now you have a cross-bred baby and the new owners wants to breed to have babies like you. Then now you have a jumbo mess explaining the origin of the bird itself.

When you cross breed like that, there can be potential problems! Health issues, behavioral issues, etc. Really think it through before you venture any further!!!

First of all my good friends have an egg incubator,and they borrow it to me, but even if we havent, the cockatoos can hatch(is it the good word??) eggs. If they cant its not a big deal. I repet myself: i only wish little parrotbabies for my own joy. I dont want give, sell, etc to anyone.
Second of all i got my parrots when they were 3-weeks-old. I fed them day after day with a special formula. So yes, i get along.
Third of all... I DONT WANT TO SELL THEM!! I KEEP THE BABIES! I dont understand why you all cant understand me. Maybe in your countries people dont like to keep little animales and you always sell them, but here is different. My daughter wants one little parrot ( FOR FREE AND SHE DOESNT WANT TO SELL OR BREED TOO) and the rest of babies stay with me, with my husband and with parents-parrots. That's all.

God, i hope they will be healthful so much, but if they dont ill do everything for them.
