Skippah has started cooing and whistling very softly when alone.
The only noise I have ever heard from him is a loud scream for attention.
Any ideas on why he doing this? is it anything to do with the fact he is nearly 2? Is my little boy growing up?
Not sure what else it could be unless he is just fighting for attention with the class clown.

Red, I would guess that he's trying to convince you that he is as crazy as the Professor is by talking to himself.
My evil Baka (citron) talks to himself often, especially if he feels he has been neglected that day. As if to say," If no one else will talk to me I'll just talk to myself".
This also goes hand in hand with his apparent pity for me when he watches me on the phone. I know he's thinking, "How sad, shes talking to that thing again".
