I was inspired by Tabs Fargo thread, and LoveMyParrots thread about Ozzie flying in his harness. I had planned to take Rosie outside in her harness, but the peregrine falcons had been flying around that morning and I didn't want to risk it. because I was taking these indoors I had my ISO at 800, this makes the images very grainy. On a sunny day outside there would be no grain.

I hope you like them :)

First, just a photo showing how adorable she is

This is where I took the photos, using the last rays of sun. Please excuse the mess, my sister's girl scout troop is selling cookies and left art project stuff around.

and the flying!

This is a funky photo, She is in the middle of a turn and her wings look like they're contradicting one another, then her bad leg is just like "oh hi"

This is how she tells me she doesn't want to go, something outside scared her and she wasn't ready

At first I had asked her to fly to the couch, but didn't feel it was dynamic enough

Also if anyone is interested in how I take these

Normally when I ask Rosie to fly I roll my hand some, this doesn't force her to fly but encourages her. You will notice when I roll my hand in the video. At some point it will be completely phased out. Because birds are fast fliers it is much easier to photograph them by panning. Panning is when you move the camera. I use my DSLR and use rapid shutter capturing about 3 photos before she leaves the light. I made a example video using my cell phone to show you how I would be holding my camera. (plus I love watching Rosie fly in slow motion). This was her last flight, and you can tell by her landing she was staring to get tired.

YAY!!! Video and photos of Rosie flying! :D

The photos were AMAZING! Very, very, very good quality! And Rosie is sooooo beautiful! I love all of her photos, but my favourite will have to be Rosie in flight. Her colour makes her looks fantastic!

Thanks so much for sharing! :)

I'm glad you like them :D sorry I couldn't take the photos outside with her harness on. For some reason I've been seeing peregrines so much these last few weeks, they even landed on a wire across the street! I've had a trained falcon fly 80mph so close to my face it's wing tips touched me, so I know they are deadly accurate.

Just wait until I get better photos outside sometime, they will be so much better. She is really pretty. I'm not sure how much she will change, she may one day end up looking like a normal Galah, which is fine by me, or she might be a true dark morph(she does look just like one). No way to know except with time. I'm happy as long as she's healthy.

That's ok, Rosie's photos were already amazing, wonder what would the photos outside looks like! So exciting! :D

That's so cool that you have peregrines there! I think they are very pretty and they have an amazing speed! But it wouldn't be a good thing when you take pet bird outside though...

I love watching animal planet on them hunting! It's very cool! Not sure if that's the best thing to say by a parrot owner! Lol :D

I love peregrines too, they are so amazing. I hope to one day get my falconer's license :D My friends dad has a female peregrine and got to hold her and pet her, her feet are so strong! She had my finger pinned down and I couldn't even move it D:

I wouldn't be as worried if I only had Rosie on my hand, but if she was on her long rope she could be targeted and I wouldn't be able to protect her because of the distance. If a bird came in when I was holding her I might have time to duck over her. I have sharp eyes from years of bird watching and marching band.

Here's a photo I took of my friends dad's peregrine, also shows how much better my photos are outside.

She is so, so beautiful. Her wings are truly majestic. I'm in awe! Thanks for sharing your incredible pics. :)
Thankyou :D I hope it inspires others to try their hand at more flying pics too :)

That's one beautiful bird! Your photo is amazing!

I can imagine! They use their claws to hold on their prey! It must of hurt! D:

I have heard that some hawks have got pet parrots, even when their parrot are one their hand! Becuase a lot of time I heard that the hawk came from behind, and killed the parrot. :( Thats some smart bird!

Luckily for me, all I really need to watch out for is magpie, cat and dog. Although I do also keep an eye out on the wild cockatoos that live around me. I think was last week or something, I took Ozzie for a walk, and two red tailed black came to check Ozzie out. And Ozzie was so scared that he hind under my jumper. Lol :D

It didn't hurt at all, I was wearing a falconers glove :)

I've heard about those magpies(I love their call). It's kinda cool to see videos of them dive bombing people lol. And that's soooo cool the wild cockatoos stop to check out Ozzie.

The only 2 birds I really to watch out for are falcons(merlins and peregrines) but the big one is the coopers hawks. The coopers are ambush predators with short rounded wings and a long tail designed for forest flight. They primarily hunt birds and are attracted to moving prey. Most of the other hawks we have in the area are buetos(red tail and red shoulder mainly) who are opportunistic and a bit lazy.

I've seen several coopers hawks in our backyard

Here's a young bird in the backyard staring down at me
Glance_by_copperarabian.jpg

And this is a huge female I saw on a walk, the biggest I've ever seen and very pretty. They always stare at me lol

Coopers_Hawk_I_by_copperarabian.jpg

Here's a photo from google showing the male, they are gorgeous boys
MaleCooperHawk.jpg

We also have sharp shinned hawks, who look nearly identical to the coopers except for their size. A sharp shinned hawk is too small for Rosie though.

Here's is a photo(from Google again) comparing a male coopers(bottom) with a male sharp shinned(top). By the photo it looks like the coopers tried to snatch the sharp shinned.

This shows the size of a coopers with some random falconer

And Rosie's about the size of a pigeon, and here's a coopers hawk full on chasing a pigeon.
