New Foster Bird

I'm watching a Citron Cockatoo for my local rescue and I want to start out on the right foot. Her name is Nanook. She is friendly, comical, and very talkative. I plan on starting clicker training tomorrow. I'm also going to try to keep her on a schedule. What can I do to prevent excessive screaming and aggression? Will the clicker training help with the noise? Is it okay to cuddle with her? She seems to love it. How do I establish a contact call?

I find clicker training will not help with screaming this is just my opinion I really don't clicker train at all just positive reinforcement. For the screaming I will have a big guide out hopefully this weekend to address how I've solved screaming with my rescue toos.

As for the cuddling most cockatoos will love this, but this is the first major reaso t hey form aggression and screaming issues. Keep the cuddling to a minimal maybe 5 minutes max then put her on a play gym. And pet the head only as down the back is sexually stimulating.

Keep her mentally stimulated in the cage and on play gyms and this should solve a lot of screaming and issues. By just giving her toys like forgaging, chewing, preening, really everything to keep her busy you should have a happy compliant bird.

What rescue did you obtain her from as I live in PA to? O and what's the birds name?

Well today he bit me twice. Once on the way to his cage and once next to his cage. Now I'm kind of worried. The rescue is My House of Wings. The birds name is Nanook.

well i know who you are.. remeber berks county bird club show i was there and saw your eclectus do some tricks i was with the other rescue feathered sanctuary. well ask if you need some help i will help you and many others can. Hows the noise level?

Yeah I remember now. The noise level is okay for now but he is still in his honeymoon stage.
