Hi, my neighbour has a 27 year old Goffin Cockatoo, they were convinced it was a male. This year it layed 2 eggs!

I'm assuming that it is in fact female, and as no other bird has been near it that the eggs are only good for omlettes.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello tuggie and welcome to the forum. :)

Yup, it's a pretty safe assumption your neighbor's Goffin is a girl. :D And yes again, there won't be any babies in those omelets, I mean eggs, without a male Goffin present. :54:

Thanks Wendy.

When can they take him/her off the eggs so they can clean it? And will this cause any phsychiatric problems?

And why after 27 years suddenly some eggs?

Thanks

Where is she laying the eggs in??? How many has she laid? I personally would leave her alone, and let her sit on them for at least 2-3 weeks. If they remove the eggs, the bird may just end up laying more.

Has anything changed in her environment? I have NO clue why after all this time, she decided to start laying eggs.

Hopefully someone with Cockatoo experience will chime in. :)

There are 2 eggs and she layed them in her cage, I haven't seen them so I don't know much more.

Just leave them, or she may lay more if you remove them. Wait until she loses interest in them. Nobody knows why birds may suddenly lay eggs, especially after a long time. It might be some kind of hormonal stimulation due to this time of year, or a medical issue, or her affection for someone in the house, no real way to tell. I've known an Amazon, and a Macaw that layed their first egg well into their 30's.
