What exactly is he doing? He tends to do it when he is relaxed. For instance, I was cleaning his cage and fiddling with his puzzle toy and he sat back and floofed his face and reached around to grab his tail feathers.

He also sometimes does this when I am just sitting and he's sitting on my knee. It's usually after a preening session then.

Anyone else's 'too do this? What's up? Lol -- he's 17 and I've only had him a few months.

Java the U2 did it a little, but not very much....As long as he's not destroying them, nothing to be alarmed about. Birds do crazy things....lol

No yeah, his feathers are doing great. He had plucked his side from being stressed about being moved from his home of 8 years but I've been testing him with avicalm and featherrific and they're almost all back now.

I was just wondering if anyone else's did it. Haha

13yr. old male umbrella cockatoo,
we call him Amigo!

7yr. old Goffin cockatoo, she IS Sassy!!
Nope, I've never seen that one. Amigo will grab his tail feathers just to pull his foot through them, like preening, I've never seen him pull them forward and hold them, though.

Because it feels good :D

My guys thoroughly enjoy flight and tail feathers to be preened by myself or another bird:)

Yeah he sits there with his back foot stuck out behind him slowly twiddling his tail feathers an then occasionally he pulls them to the front. Especially if I am near (like for the photo, haha)
