:eek:I have a 12 year old umbrella cockatoo that will not quit screaming. There are new people living at my house and I know that is causing it, but my question is, do they have any sprays or vitamins I can put in his water that will help calm his nerves? I know they make calming spray for cats, but what about birds?
Obviously, I can't change our living arrangements at this time and he has been screaming non stop for a week. I realize that he is stressed, but his stress release is causing me and my family members to lose our minds.
Getting rid of him is not an option nor is hurting him, but I have most certainly considered cutting my own head off just so I don't have to hear him scream anymore.
Yes, I have tried the dark blanket around him and that works under normal circumstances, but he has gone out of control and there is no stopping him anymore.

if you chose a cockatoo for your first parrot you have lost your mind
how many time does it screem a day ?

if it screams more then thrice it wants your attention what you do is when it screams dont even look at it dont retaliate at any circumstances dont make direct eye contact even if in the same room
and when it stops if it stops go near it cuddle it stroke it and say good girl the moment it start screeming again do the poroceedures mentioned above

if it dont work and goes so out of hand put a dark blanket on the cage to calm it down

they do make different calming things for birds. I was just looking at some today. I have my reserves about using them, but only because I have reserves about giving anything other than the necessary foods. Let me see if I can find it...

MyBirdSafeStore sells avicalm. This helps somewhat. You have to remember that you Too is very upset with this change of added people. His home has been invaded. If you could get the new people to gently get to know him he may feel more comfortable.
