She's been acting really off lately and I'm so stressed about it. I've been feeling really conflicted because the symptoms are so subtle and I wasn't sure if I was just over reacting. Rosie's never truly been "sick", and it's always been a huge worry of mine.

  • sleepier than normal
  • breathing slightly harder than normal on occasion
  • being more nippy
But the symptom that really got me that happened recently was

  • single click noise(very different from a galah purr) each time she breathed for about 15 seconds
That scared me so much! I haven't heard it again but I'm still freaking out! I had to go to halfmoon bay for 3 days/2 nights right after I heard that, It was to visit my grand parents and I wasn't allowed to not go. My brother and best friend watched Rosie like a hawk for me and promised to take her to the ER vet encase of a emergency. I made them a list of symptoms to look out for and left 2 avian vet numbers(her vet and a highly recommended vet). That first night in Halfmoon bay I tossed and turned and couldn't sleep at all.

I'm calling Rosie's avian vet tomorrow at 9 right when they open to schedule a appointment for her, even my parents are a bit worried(Because I'm worried, they don't see anything different with her) and my step dad is going to come encase it ends up being more expensive than I can afford. I am so grateful that they are doing that, it is a great relief for me to not have a budget when I'm so worried about her health.

Please keep her in your thoughts, and lets all hope I'm just over reacting or it's a easy to fix illness.

Likewise, hope it goes ok. She's molting at the moment, isn't she? Might she just be having a hard time because of that?

The breathing worries me too. My noble macaw Mihijo labored breathed much like you described and because he had heart disease I didn't mess around with that. He breathed hard because his organs were enlarged pressing on his lungs. I felt very bad for my boy. We were able to reverse much of his health problems but last October I lost him to a heart attack.

Please keep up updated to Rosie's vet visit. I hope things are going to be just fine with her. I keep her in my prayers until you know more.

Take care of yourself too!!

Yeah, she's been molting for a while and it's really been bothering her.

That's so sad about Mihijo :(

I'll make sure to keep everyone updated on Rosie.
Right before she went to bed she seemed pretty good, but she's also really happy and excited that I'm back home and that may be hiding the symptoms. It seems that the sleepier she is the more they seem to show.

I know they say cockatoos live a long time . But Rosie is a little older. My Older birds sleep more [especially in the heat]. If her droppings are good [and shes eating ] no weight loss . I hope its just the molting thing [its such a long process] .Good luck with the vet.

my heart dropped when I read this Ashley!....any time I hear about breathing, quiter than usual and nippy it could be an upper respiratory infection.

laboured breathing and clicking in my birds indicate air sac mites, but I am only talking about canaries and finches...

highly doubtful she has that but it could be anything. Thank god you know her soooo well, and noticed right away.

I will keep you and Rosie in my thoughts, and wait to hear for some results....
