My umbrella cockatoo is 7 years old. She laid two eggs last spring and since then when she poops, it just hangs in a long string and she has to use her beak to break it off. This is making her vent feathers dirty. Any idea what is causing this?

That isn't good, I'm not sure what is causing that but she really needs to be seen by a vet.

parrots hide illness because they're prey animals, a vet is able to do a few test to check for various infections or illnesses that may be causing something like that to happen. It may be a very simple fix, or complicated fix

I have one umbrella cockatoo. A female 3 years old named Mina.
OMG this really sounds like a prolapse. Are you sure no other eggs could possibly be in her? If so she could become very ill. Sometimes an egg can even be on the outside of their uterus or whatever equivalent bird part that is. They can end up with pyometra. I agree with the others avian vet ASAP. please let us know how you make out.

My girl had stringy poop for about a week or two after laying an egg and the vet said it was normal, however sounds as though your girl may have an infection or something since its been happening for a while now~
