WB Caique
Hello All,

I am looking to add another bird to our flock. I have had my male WBC for 7 years. We want to add another bird to our flock. Immediately we thought to add another caique, a female.... but there are so many other variations out there we thought why not look into others. The goffins has caught our eye.

My caique is very loud at times but does not have a morning/ night routine of screaming. He talks, says a few phrases like pretty bird, whats up, mommy, and others. He goes everywhere with us. He is a ball of energy and must be watched all the time.

How do the goffins compare to caiques? does anyone out there have both? In my research, they seem very similar. My caique is also an escape artist. We have had to modify his cage. He is a cuddle bug but also has the jekyl and hyde personality known of caiques. He can be sweet one minute and a demon the next. Generally, he goes to anyone, but he is not shy about demonstrating his dislike for someone and will hunt and stalk them to no end with the intent to kill. I can hold him on his back, pull out his wings. I trim his nails ect.

I'm looking for any kind of comparative feed back. I have been researching and learning about birds since I adopted my caique 7 years ago. I was his 3rd owner and he was just 1 1/2.

I feel like you can read all about it, but having a comparison would be helpful because I know what its like living with my crazy caique.! <3

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
That's an apples and oranges comparison on so many levels...

I've played with Caiques, but I never owned one. I did own a goffins, but he was an ultra-neurotic plucker, and by no means normal...

Your Caique is way feistier. Probably a better trick bird, okay, no probablies about it... Don't have to teach a caique to self entertain. They were born to play!

Raised properly G2's are cuddle birds. They have to be trained to self entertain.

We have a Goffin and couldn't be more happier with him!!!!! He loves to snuggle,(with my husband) LOL. He's very chatty, Morning Flock call in the morning but other than that he's pretty quite. He'll step up on pretty much any one that he comes into contact with. When Silus is ready for bed, he lets everyone know to go to bed and lights out!!!!! If everyone stays up He has a major scream feast!!!!!! Kinda funny as soon as ALL lights and TV goes out he stops. Nothing like being told to go to bed by your Bird!!! LOL

Silus has taken out the screws out from his ladder on his play gym,But so far he hasn't escaped his cage YET!!!! LOL. He's very intelligent though, So i'm sure at some point he will be escaping it. Hope this helps :). Goffins are birds!!!!!

G2's and RB2's tend to be the easiest, quietest, and least needy of the toos.

The thing with any too though, is not to turn them into a Velcro bird that cannot be set down EVER!

I have both and will give you my honest take on them. What I love about my Caiques[I have 2] . Is how well they entertain themselves and also love to see you..Any of my other species require more [check out my birds]. My goffin is a rehome that was kept in its owners 3rd floor by himself from 11 to 5 .Then to bed at 8. So he has issues. Ive seen where going wrong with a Goffin gets you.But if you get them as a baby [or not with problems ] I hear they can be great . Just if your set on them you have to do it right [they will want more than your caique. I wouldn't say their an easy 2 at all [but can be done] I would suggest a Rb2 [Ive had 2 of them] . Nice birds, quieter .Very different than Goffins{ Lets put it this way Pearl [my goffin] . Is the rockstar of the house . He insists on his attention and requires you to stay on a schedule . Their going to be louder than your Caique. Toos fling food [just want to give you a heads up]. because they all do .Its hard going by what you read on the internet [they can be way off ].Keep talking to owners .

13yr. old male umbrella cockatoo,
we call him Amigo!

7yr. old Goffin cockatoo, she IS Sassy!!
I've never owned a Caique but from what you say about them sounds a lot like my Goffin's! Goffin's,( at least mine is), are intelligent, active, escape artist (to the max!), fun little clowns. She only likes me when my husband isn't around, she adores him. Personally, I like her feistiness :)

I agree with Pinkbirdy, talk to owners. Sorry to have to say but MyToos.com has the most negative info I've ever read on cockatoos. They truly are special birds, in a good way.

Just my .02 but get the second caique. If you've never seen two play together you're in for a treat. They are so much fun. My father-in-law had a Goffins that we inherited when he passed away. We kept him until we found a home for him with a very nice couple who's G2 had just passed away. Personally, I couldn't take the G2 screaming, not that it was all the time, but set my teeth on edge when he did scream.
