Rosie LOVES LOVES eucalyptus branches, especially when they are dried out. I stuck this branch(that had been on top her cage for two weeks) and placed it on her java perch. She stripped all the leaves except were she couldn't reach, then CLIMBED up the branch! What a surprise that was! She was so happy doing this, and that in turn made me very happy :heart:

I wish I could, that would be awesome and might motivate Rosie to fly more. Although my room is a decent size, it doesn't haven a good spot to put up branches, or stand. I went out and cut two 6" branches from the trees, I tried setting them up over my desk but it wasn't working out. But now Rosie has a bunch of eucalyptus in her cage and on her java stand. I might of had room before to do some sort of set up, but Kenji's cage is only a little smaller than Rosie's, two big cages in a bedroom take up a lot of space XD Rosie LOVES her java stand, it's one of her favorite places to be :)

Oh my gosh she actually looks like she is smiling !!!! :eek: Thats adorable

Leaves and branches is definitely the easiest way to keep them entertained and foraging!! :D

Heres a weird little thing, you know the buds and pods you can get on the different eucalyptus types? Well Fargo is perfectly fine with the big gumnuts, but these little pod seed things, make him feel sick.. So maybe its true only Australian birds can have all the seeds and pods! Fargo is fine with branches and leaves, just some pods he cant handle :20:

LOL I'm always being told how it looks like she's smiling :heart:

@tab
Wow, really interesting! Rosie eats the small green nuts the two types we have in the backyard, but I always cut them off when Kenji gets a branch(not that he even chews on it LOL). I've always been wary of a non native species eating a tree known for being toxic. Since last we talked about the toxicity of eucalyptus to non native species I've relaxed a little(thats when I put branches back on Kenji's cage), figuring if Australian breeders recommended it it can't be that bad.

Also, did you see the blue and gold feathers in the first photo, I had them out for photos and left them there on accident when I had to run errands.

On our property we have a different type to the one you have i think, our leaves are a bit skinnier, there are other types around the place, but i just get the branches from the main ones!

Fargo has never had a problem with them, chews on them, snaps the twigs and bark, but when they had the green pod on them, he vomited it up... So always took them off, he accidentally got one the other week and vomited it back up again!! Which is strange because he can have the huge gumnuts perfectly fine!!

Must be different types arent good for exotic species, hence they are sometimes listed as toxic!

HAHA ! Now why do you have blue and gold feathers?! :p

It must be a bit scary when he throws them up. I'll be extra careful to make sure Kenji never gets the nuts. i'm envious that you get gumnuts! I'm always looking out for them haha. On the coast there's tons of eucalyptus(planted as wind blockers), they have much bigger leaves and larger strong smelling nuts, but not the huge gumnuts.

Lol, I have a handful of blue and good feathers from Sun Dance, I love them! Especially the long tail feathers. I've met a suprisingly amount of people who have B&G, much more common here than in Australia. Always fun to get to see such magnificent birds :love:
