I am starting to investigate getting a goffin cockatoo or a rose breasted. This won't happen for a few months, but I'm trying to find breeders around this area - although I am willing to travel a good deal. But I want to visit the baby in person. I am NOT comfortable with just shipping. Any suggestions?

I searched and the closest is MA and they only have one galah and no real reviews to go off of - I'll be sure to call and talk to them though.

Or if you have a favorite breeder anywhere in the US I'd love to hear about them. I am just looking for a REALLY healthy REALLY well socialized baby.

I bought my galah through Lone Palm Aviaries in Florida- but she's more of a bird broker. Chili ended up coming from a breeder of hers in California...I'm in Oregon, so I was happy she didn't have far to go instead of being shipped across the country.

Chili was VERY well socialized by the breeder and transitioned into our home like she'd been living here the whole time. She's a very sweet baby and we haven't had any issues. She also passed her health check with flying colors!

Don't know what your time frame is or where you are located but I go to World of Birds in NJ for supplies sometimes. I bought one bird there in the past too and I feel they take good care of their birds and make sure the staff knows how to handle them. Before I bought Gilbert I went there to play with some baby green cheeks and suns...........and I fell in love with their blue crown who was already sold. That's when I hit birdbreeder.com too. Gilbert was shipped. It wasn't my ideal either but it all worked out fine. Happy hunting (maybe that is a bad choice of words? sounds violent, LOL)

Bird mania (emmaus pa) gets them from time to time. They hand feed them after getting them in from breeders. They have a baby goffin that's already talking but I don't know if its still available and they have an older rose breasted they were rehoming I believe.

go to mytoos.com to do some research, and for the sake your own safety, never let the word, "breeder" enter your speech when on that site.

Their expertise, however, is unparalleled.

I'm not really sure how you got from goffin to rose breasted by skipping over all three subspecies of Bare eyed cockatoos(which are my favorites, so I'm a little biased): but seriously, they are almost dead ringers for goffins with the inherent extra ability to entertain themselves.

Neither here nor there though, I have inherent distrust of any breeder willing to ship. That's not to say I wouldn't buy from one, but rather I wouldn't buy without being physically present to pick out and take the bird home myself.

Also, the rescues are overloaded with goffins if you believe Petfinder.com you might want to ask somebody why over at mytoos as as far as I know, they are just a bit on the hyper side with somewhat emotionally clingy issues – but nothing worth getting rid of a bird over.
