Just wondering if any one has, or knows someone who has a Galah/Goffin hybrid. I ask because a small privately owned pet store where I buy bird supplies has had a cockatoo for several months. He is the oddest looking little character. He has dark gray wings, a pale peach breast with small white spots. His face and short crest are off white and his beak is cream. The store owner is really a good guy, but not always reliable when a potential sale is involved. I have looked at a lot of photos, but I can't find one that looks just like this bird. He doesn't look exactly like a Goffin or a Galah, but a bit like both. I've really fallen for him, he follows me around the store and unties my shoes. He lands on the cages of the smaller birds just to harass them. I have no idea what his price should be,
but the price they are asking seems extremely low.

I have a male Umbrella and two Quakers and enough space for one more medium or large parrot. All my birds are re-homed and all of them brought baggage but the bird room is a very happy place most of the time and we love having them. I really think a Galah or a Goffin would be a good fit.

Do it! And then get a photo to show us all! Sounds very interesting...

Thanks for the vote of confidence! Was that an evil giggle in that last post? I kind of expected someone to know a bird like him. He may have been sold by the time I visit the store again and then I'll have to choose a Goffin or a Galah.

There are quite a few hybrids in Oz, I've met a couple and they're very sweet-natured birds. Here, they are usually either galah/little corella or galah/long-billed corella.

Speaking of galahs, we drove 1000km (500km ea. way) to pick up a bonded pair of eccies last Saturday. The lady had a beautiful WA galah, which could do some amazing tricks, like shake hands, 360 degree turn, wings open, bow etc. The neatest trick was to take coloured pegs from one container to another nearly a metre away, one by one. The reward she was giving was dried rockmelon (I think Americans call them cantaloupe) seeds. A beautiful bird up close, too, a little different to the eastern galahs I'm used to (coming as I do from the east coast, and most recently in the eastern interior).

Thanks Mike,
Congratulations on the eccies!! What a wonderful flock you have.
I love all the parrots but I have a real soft spot for the cockatoos.
I've been reading a lot about Galahs, but the little guy in the pet store is the only one I know. He's been there for months. Some of the customers are calling him Egore. an awful name for such a beautiful bird. He has the cutest personality. The only reservations I have are his health and his age. The pet store owner isn't helping a bit. He goes down on the price every time I go in. We'll see what happens.

The "flock" has its moments :) This afternoon my wife attempted to prepare some food for 4 baby tiels. She had 4 adult birds hanging around wanting a piece of the action...She had to go to the bathroom (that's the one with the bath in it- the dunny is ANOTHER room in this country:)) to feed them. The eccy pair aren't tame, Allee, they're in an aviary although the male is semi-tame and will come to the hand.

Your home must be a busy, happy place! How well do your flock members get along?
Your new Eclectus couple is a breeding pair?

After I read your post, I looked at a lot of photos. You were exactly right. I'm almost positive the little fellow at the pet store is a galah/little corella cross, not a galah/ goffin cross. His face is exactly like a little corella. I hope he finds a wonderful home even if it isn't mine.

I think you should get him too! Galahs are funny and clever and intelligent and snuggly and so very soft (more so than most birds). You won't be sorry! :)

I went to visit my little friend. I would love to bring him home but I am trying to be sensible and do the right thing for everyone. I am really concerned about this bird's health. He would not come with a vet check and I have three birds at home. I don't know how I could safely quarantine him. From what I've read, I got really lucky with my U2. He's a wonderful bird and I don't want to ruin the progress I've made with him so far. I hope this little fellow finds an amazing home.

He kind of reminds me of a bare eyed hybrid rather than a goffin. If so, that might explain the color differences? Not sure though.
