Hi everyone!

Can you please look at the pictures in my album and let me know what specie do you think is the cockatoo I want to adopt?

I'd like to learn more about the specificities of it's specie before buying her...

Thanks a lot for your help!

Really?

I was thinking she might be an eleonora or a triton...

Alice is a beautiful Umbrella cockatoo, also goes by U2, White Cockatoo, or Umbie and probably a few more. I've heard there are two sizes of Umbrellas but I personally don't know the specific differences?

I'm not well versed on all the different species of white 'toos, but I DO know that they can be difficult birds to care for....they can be very emotionally needy, and if you don't raise them right they can turn on you upon maturity.

I met one U2 at my local pet shop and she was a complete sweetheart, but I'm wary of them going Dr Jekyll and Hyde on me lol so I didn't handle her even though she wanted me to

I say if you do adopt a cockatoo, you should be well aware of all the "what if's" and behavior issues they can have and have the ability to work with them....a lot of people "get in over their heads" because cockatoos can be complicated to live with if you're not prepared.

Oops! Maybe I'm wrong. In the photos Alice's crest doesn't show. An Umbrella's crest is solid white. Does Alice have yellow feathers in her crest?

Read Getwozzy's above post several times, it's very good advice. It took me six weeks to make up my mind to commit to my re-homed cockatoo. Big decision with big consequences for you and the bird. I worked in a veterinarian clinic that treated Avians for three years when I was younger and learning to be comfortable around big birds has been invaluable for me. If you are nervous the bird knows it and cockatoos will take advantage.

I waited a lot of years to be in a situation to adopt parrots. I know what you're going through and it seems like everyone wants to discourage you. I think everyone wants to see you succeed, it's more that they know from experience what kind of difficulties you're facing and want you to be prepared.

Nope! Not an Umbrella. LSC? What does the pet store say?

Could she perhaps be an umbrella/sulfur-crested hybrid?

She looks a little plucked though- so she may have health or behavior (stress/anxiety) issues...or both. An avian vet visit would be your first order of business if you bring her home.

Yes of course I will have her examine if I buy her cause she's been rescued from her last owner who put her in an aviary with 2 furets for few months... And she has been plucking since... :(

She has been presented to the pet store manager as a sulfur crested cockatoo... I don't think she's a lesser sulfur cause she's quite big and doesn't have obvious yellow ear patches...

I think she could be an eleonora or a triton from what I have read until now...

She's so pretty anyway! :)

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
That is a GREATER SULFER CRESTED too...

And yes, she's plucking, but it's not as bad as some of the birds I've seen.

I'd say Triton she appears to be a big gal (even plucked).

Is there a difference between the Triton toos, and a Greater Sulfer Crested?

Are they two names for the same bird?!
