Hello! I would like to add a galah or a caique to my bird flock in the next year or two. I want to know as much information about them before telling a breeder to select one for me. I also have a bfa that I adopted that I need to be more trusting of me before I can get another bird. I have read many other forums but I think this one has better answers :). I like Galahs because from what I have read is that they aren't as cockatooy as a large cockatoo if that makes sense. I do understand that they can become fearful so lots of experiences are good. They just seem like great birds. Sadly I don't know anyone with one and no breeders or bird sanctuaries in my area have one so I can't learn from personally experience. If I could have some goods, bads, and stories about that I would appreciate that! Thanks :)

Oh gosh- where to begin? lol I don't have experience in caring for any of the white 'toos, but my 11 month old galah has been quite the adventure :D I have been told though that galahs tend to be less emotionally needy and a tad more independent than the white 'toos. It all depends on how you raise them though...

galahs can be beaky- chili is constantly chomping on my fingers...not hard though, and I haven't been bitten hard enough to leave any marks. She puts up with my toddler extremely well considering all the crying, screaming, and banging he does  Her demeanor is incredibly sweet and she will let strangers hold her. She spends most of the day entertaining herself or hanging out in our vicinity- she's got endless energy and plays pretty much all day.

when she does play- most of it is hanging upside down on her boing screeching and attacking her toy hahaha she's also part paper-shredder and is constantly chewing on something-so beware! ;) she also loves rolling around in laundry, wrestling with spoons, stealing noodles, and we're currently learning to dance. :)

She's incredibly smart- she's escaped a few times out of her food doors because I forgot to latch them at night, she knows when I'm going to try and put her in her cage- even if I change up the chain-of-events....she still knows lol, and right now she says more words than my 21 month old toddler.

she's currently scared of construction equipment and balloons...and neon clothing.

I probably don't know Sakura well enough to really weigh in -- I've only had her a week and a half. She is a total sweetheart, not loud at all, can entertain herself in her cage, very affectionate. She is shy and can be a little bit fearful of new things and people, but I've already seen a huge improvement in her. I've had guests over twice, and both times she was okay with them being around. She even let one friend give her scritches right away. She's gotten used to my cats very quickly. Even at three years old, it seems like she's not so set in her ways that exposure to new things won't help.

In the past few days, I've seen a more confident, playful side of her emerging. She's still sweet, but also naughty...like any parrot, she likes to chew on things. She sees my toys (laptop, cell phone) and wants them. She can also be beaky if she's excited and will nibble my ears. Not hard enough to hurt, but sometimes she does get a little too pinchy when she's overstimulated. She really loves toys, and now that she's been getting more spoiled I think I'm going to have to start rotating them in her cage so she doesn't get bored (in her previous home, she only had one.)

They tend not to be an intense or needy as the white cockatoos, but each one is an individual and has their own personality. They still require a fair amount of attention. It seems that females are generally a little more laid-back than males, but of course that isn't always the case.

I would personally recommend a galah over a caique, because I've read more negative things (in regards to aggression) about caiques. I have no first-hand experience with them though, only stories. It seems most galah owners can't say enough good things about their pink chickens.
