Sakura is getting more confident and more cockatoo-like! :D

I had her on her play stand, while I was on my laptop at the kitchen table. Suddenly she flew about twenty feet and landed on the table! Up until now, she has only flown when scared. She has a partial clip and is missing most of her tail, plus she's overweight, so I assume it's not the easiest thing for her. I'm proud! Of course now, that means I have to watch out. ;) She's currently chewing on my shirt label after having thoroughly inspected my computer.

And she has been a BRAT all morning! lol. Stealing my cereal, being very "beaky" and generally wanting to stick her face in everything. Glad to see she's feeling more comfortable, lol. The angelic act was nice while it lasted. ;)

NICE!!! It's great watching them "come to life".. Very satisfying!

Rascal is currently clipped but I don't think he ever really flew (kept as a breeder for a number of years), he either goes straight UP or flutters down. We recently installed the playtop on his house and he took flight and hit the ceiling (straight up) then fluttered down gently to the ground! He's got no real directional control of his flight, strange boy!

It seems like she finally had a breakthrough in confidence today...she's realizing that she can use her wings to get where she wants. She is now following me around the apartment, flying from her tree to the kitchen table or couch, and from there to my shoulder or arm. While this surely means she's going to be getting in a lot more trouble, I'm so excited that she will finally start to become more physically fit! She is turning into a whole new bird; a true cockatoo instead of a shy, slightly phobic perch potato.

We had the same experience with our girl... she seemed too perfect for a while, we joke she has finally come into her cockatoo attitude :)

I am really happy for Sakura, wonderful for her to find her inner bird and realize she is safe and secure to the point she can explore (and destroy) whatever she finds interesting :) Its a great feeling to see that moment and know you had a role in that turnaround. Congrats to her and big hug to you for your love and patience!!

Exactly, haha...too perfect! That's how she was for the first couple of weeks. But it didn't take her long at all to get comfortable.
