Hi,

I have a baby goffin, hatch date 12/30/09. I am have been an experienced hand feeder and have been for the last 20 years, however this is my first cockatoo as a pet, for the last week which is how long he has been home he was in a baby cage/nursery cage, He either sat to my left in nursery cage able to look out the window or to my right on a basket that toys hanging from it. This whole time his cage was set up where he can see it. At night I take the toys that are in the cage to my bed where we have one on one play time. With the toys, so he is not frightened or scared of them. He has reverted back and is on two feedings per day, but he wants to be with momma and not in the cage. The cage cage position is to the back of me now, he still has the window for all the action which is just the trees and the fountain. But soon as I get up from my computer he baby baby and wants out, I call to him when I leave the room so he knows I am still here, but he needs to be in his cage and learned some independence, am I doing the right thing.

Respectfully,

Ann

Yes sounds like your doing the right thing, I know it's hard to leave them. Cockatoos are my personal favorites in the parrot world! but they are notorious for becoming over bonded. Sounds like your giving this baby a great start to life. Welcome to the forum, and we look forward to having your expertise!
