So, Im trying to convince my mom to get a Goffins Cockatoo. We used to be involved in a parrot rescue and have had one before, ( his name was Joey :D). We have also had and Umbrella Cockatoo named baby, which was also a rescue. The thing is-my mom thinks they are too dusty. Are Cockatoos just naturally dusty, or just some of them? Stupid question to ask, but I just LOVVEE Cockatoos and I want one so bad! The Dusty part of the equation is the only thing stopping me from getting one!!!

Thanks!!

Cockatoos are naturally dusty, and I thought I wanted one also (not trying to scare you, just being honest), that is; until I found out how dusty they are. HEPA filters can work wonders for you, and just a few other filters. You also have to bathe your birdie daily. Dusting the cage bars and the rest of the bird's environment helps too.

Also, have you considered cockatiels? They are quieter than cockatoos, and smaller. A smaller body means less dust, so you can wear your black shirt around them! They can talk like cockatoos, and they still have that scratchy little voice that we all know and love. They can whistle long songs, like jingle bells. They are better whistlers than talkers, but what they lack in talking ability they make up for with cuteness.

Hope this helps!

I have a moluccan that can be very dusty if I don't mist her daily and I also have a goffin that I really don't think has a dust problem. After holding Molly, I don't have to brush anything off of me like I would after holding Peaches if I haven't misted her.

Baths are so important, dare I miss a couple of days...then everybody here gets itchy eyes! Make sure that you bathe your baby daily.

I'm sorry, but I just have to know. If you don't bath your tiels daily, then your family has problems? A few tiels can do this??

my teil gets very dusty without frequent baths. She loves to have her head scratched but it's like birdy dandruff - you will see the dust falling off as I rub it.

I have an AG, Mishka.
I have to continuously dust and vacuum daily.
Mishka has a daily bath, sometimes 2 x a day, here in South Africa it is extremely hot now.
She often dips into her special water bowl just to cool off.

Are there any other AG guardians that dust so much daily ????

THE JOYS OF HAVING A BIRD I WOULD NOT HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY

Little Corella Cockatoo - Buddy
Buddy always leaves dust after cuddling that you can see on my dark colored clothes. He is misted daily and I wipe his cage down. He also bathes on his own about 3-4 times per week. Just natural "love" powder from a cockatoo! lol
