I decided to add a new bird to my show, giving the hormonal one a chance to retire (or atleast take a long break).

Juliette will be my first cockatoo. She is a fourteen year old umbrella cockatoo. She is definitely a show bird, she loves the attention and the hands on interaction. She isn't startled or bothered by much, either. She also is perfectly content with letting us manipulate her.

Currently her wings are clipped. We will be working on a solid recall, hopefully she will be a good candidate for free flight.

Anyway, what you have all been waiting for, here's Juliette.

13yr. old male umbrella cockatoo,
we call him Amigo!

7yr. old Goffin cockatoo, she IS Sassy!!
Juliette is beautiful! I also have a fourteen year old umbrella cockatoo, a male, which I free flight. They are great candidates for free flight because of their size and intelligence. A very strong bond will go a long way,,when added to your recall training. Is Juliette your first bird to free fly?

Beautiful girl she is! I'm sure your falcon experience will give her a unique opportunity to free-fly. Not many domestic parrots get that chance. Keep us posted on her progress.

Thank you. No, Juliette will not be my first free flight bird. I will try to keep you all updated, but may have to be nagged about photos, as I'm not too great at remembering to take them.

I think it fits her, as well. We do an educational presentation with animals. We use reptiles, marsupials (and are very soon going to add a wallaby!), amphibians, invertebrates, and birds. I have a Quaker who is not for educational use (VERY one person bird), an Alexandrine (hormonal one), an African White Neck Raven, and we have a few raptors in our program as well that don't live in my home. We also have several farm birds- chickens, ducks, geese, guineas, and turkeys.

Edit:

As far as the program is concerned, we actually have a number of lesson plans that range from elementary school level to collegiate level. We try to be as hands on as possible. We have a younger program called Around The World, in which we present animals from different continents and just talk a little about what makes them a (bird, reptile, amphibian, animal, plant, etc). We have a program that teaches about defense mechanisms, conservation, we do a genetics lab with some of our reptiles. We are in the process of adding an urban homesteading plan for the conventions.

That sounds like quite the show you have there. Glad to hear it's educational too. I'm betting Juliette will be a wonderful ambassador for parrots. Cockatoos are typically very sweet, and super smart.

Juliette is home. :) She's sitting on my lap as I type this.

I've learned already that she enjoys melons, has a bit of a vocabulary, and doesn't enjoy being left alone. She can say " who's a pretty bird", "whatcha doing?", "hello", "hi", "I love you" and "step up". She also face plants into your chest for cuddles when you rub her head or neck.
