Folger Update! Some Photos:)

He has been doing really really well! For about an hour or so I thought he might have been starting to rip at his chest but then I realized his scab fell off and it was just a bit red. We tried bath time and he totally freaked on me. Went flying and panicking. He was starting to mess around with his feathers though so I knew he needed a bath even if he didn't agree. We got through it and he looked much better.

He still doesn't like my parents anywhere near us or his cage. He has gotten a lot better about the cage though and lets them talk to him without being a complete freak. He will also let me take him in the living room now and sit at the kitchen table while my parents are on the couch about 5 feet away. He doesn't do the full body shake anymore when he sees them sitting in the living room! Progress!

I learned he likes to pick on my parents now though He will act like he is going to jump over to the couch while saying hello...and when they tense and look at him he will start doing his demon laugh. Its hilarious! My parents said I brought home chuckie in bird form....

I'm pretty sure people have thrown things at Folger When my stepfather tossed something across the room Folger completely froze and started shaking a bit. He also spent a good minute or two watching him before going back to playing with his toys. Folger will also flinch slightly if I make a fast movement in his vicinity so I'm pretty positive he was physically abused now. I hate people sometimes...

Folger practically runs to the front of his cage now when I go to open the door! He jumps right out and will do the beak rubbing to show his affection. No bites have occurred nor any lunges. He has acted more like a cockatoo the past two days....stealing things off the table... If I say his name in a disapproving way he will drop whatever he was doing and wander off like he wasn't doing anything

He looks so much better already, and definitely looks so much happier. I love that picture of him with the foot toy! He so looks like he is up to something You are doing an amazing, wonderful job with him.

It is terrible the things that people do to these magical creatures.

Thanks He will also say, 'What do you want?' really loud and like a grumpy old man when my parents walk by my room. He will also do it at night when we make a loud noise

He is definitely a character

Terry, I'm really hoping I can get him to let some of his feathers grow back. I know there are spots where they are still able to come back in but I'm not as sure about his chest area! Hopefully a year from now he will have all his wing and back feathers back in:51: Right now I'm satisfied with the no mutilation.

I'll have to get some videos for his fans

With the bond you already have with him, I hope the mutilating is over.
I am so excited to see what Folger looks like in even a month - if anyone can get him to leave his poor feathers alone, I believe it is you

So happy Folger is doing well! It really sounds like you were meant for each other. I love the photo with the toy shoved right up in the camera. "Look at what I have mommy!"

Cute... you guys need to live with him for a few days When Victoria has him at the table, he has started coming over to sit on the back of the chair facing us and will do his funny sweet hello or hello folgie, then he starts to put his wings out like he is gonna come over... we try not to make eye contact! Then he walks away and does this really demon Chuckie doll laugh and when we laugh, he does more demonic laughing...

When its bedtime, we have trouble not responding to him, he keeps calling hello or the whatta want. And if he hears us laugh at something on TV, we hear the demonic laugh then we all laugh louder... Victoria keeps yelling at us that he needs to go to sleep. I gave him a bit of millet thru the cage bars today (we don't give the cockatoos millet usually, its for my little budgie, but also knew he would not be able to refuse). His initial response was to be upset that I was close to his cage, then when he took a bite, you could literally see the split between, I want to eat her face but oh this tastes so good...

So far one of the absolute best things was him yelling at one of the cats to 'go away' and the cat went running like heck out of Victoria's room. He also does a call that sounds like Tori (Victoria's nickname). More like too-ey, but between that and him telling the cat to go away, I have to present him as a candidate for parrots learning human language - not just mimic words but using them in the correct context! His demon laugh is a whole another topic...

He is doing awesome, its amazing to see him with Victoria, there is no doubt he was just waiting and biding his time at the shelter tile she came along! He is doing much better around us when he is out, but think building a relationship will definitely be on his terms... he seems interested in us when he's out and about on the table. Its just so clear he's had some terrible things happen to him, so we're not pushing, I think our first hurdle is for him to feel safe and know he's home for good... no clue how long that will take, but guessing he'll let us know! He loves talking to us, so baby steps at this point!!

I went back and looked at the pictures with the new captions and laughed! They actually do look like he is saying all of it Those were actually Lokis toys from his out of cage time basket...I'm going to be in trouble tomorrow

I really hope he is done with the mutilating too! The rescue says he goes through cycles with it so time will tell if he has truly stopped. So far it doesn't even seem like he is over preening. He messes with his fleece snuggie and destroys his toys like crazy instead of his feathers so far. Today he actually cracked a mini plastic rattle so no more of those for him...

I won't be able to type if he chews my fingers off!!! You'll be shocked one day when you come home from class and he's hanging out with me.... or you find my half eaten body hanging out of his cage.,., one or the other, actually 50/50 odds for anyone taking bets!!!
