Hello again 
My family recently acquired a sulphur-crested cockatoo.
Actually. Quite a story is to go with that statement. The cockatoo was originally a friend of the families, but when they went travelling we were asked to mind it. We offered of course. It was an exciting prospect
We decided to put him in the aviary, but we noticed he couldn't stand up to well, and when he finally fell off the perch and ended up breaking his leg, we took him to the bird veterinarian in fast succession. We found out he had two previous fractures in his leg, Next to no calcium, liver disease and generically, a very sick bird.
The cause? What every new, uneducated bird owner does. The previous owners had been keeping him on the sunflower seed diet for his entire life. Nothing else.
Of course, that is a big no no.
So we asked to keep the bird once we got him back because we could tell the previous owners were getting tired of him. So at present he is sitting in his recovery cage inside, elizabethan collar and cast. He's certainly getting better and is improving overall. He has also taken quite a shine to me and he has only let one person go near him. Thats me.
Which is a bit worrying, what with tales of birds choosing human mates amongst the family flock which does cause a lot of troubles inside.
I noticed this morning something he had never done before. Once I closed the door and walked off, he began to screech (more so say something along the likes of "hello cocky"). He has never done that before. I did go back to check what was going on and he began to jump up and down on the spot, puffing up his neck feathers.
Does anyone know what he means when he does this? I have a lingering suspicion its an attempt to woo, but I may be wrong.
