I'm thinking of getting a cockatoo or two for freeflight, I know they make great fliers. I was wondering if anyone knows much about them.

I was thinking of getting a major Mitchell and a red tailed black.
Does anyone know if they would get along if hand-raised together? Does anyone have experience with these two birds.

I have heard Major Mitchells (leadbeaters) and galahs (rose-brested) are often seen together in the wild, so I wonder if it would be the same for a black too.

I have free flown both, but never together.

I personally don't know how they'd get along together - MMs always seem to only like other MMs, in my experience. RTBs are a bit calmer, but mine are very possessive of me, and while they're alright with other humans being around, other birds spark jealousy. Perhaps if both were raised together from a young age, if would be fine though.

Obviously you'll also have to consider these birds as pets, not just as free-fliers. MMs are noisy, RTBs are destructive, it's up to you if you think you have the time and energy for two such challenging birds.

Also I'm not sure where in Australia you live, but you may require a licence to keep a RTB and/or MM.
