Loki, a Goffin's cockatoo, and Mango, a sun conure.
Hello all! So Loki (Goffin's cockatoo) and Mango (sun conure) are finally here with in San Diego! It's been about two weeks and it's already been a crazy ride. Amongst the weirdest of the behaviors I've noticed is that every two or three nights, Loki will start screaming every 10 seconds or so sometime between 11:30 PM and 12:30 AM. He goes for between 5-10 minutes, and then he's quiet until sunrise. What is going on? Their room is pitch black and I close the window at night to help regulate temperature and cut down on noise from cars, animals, etc. outside. They've never had their cages covered before, and I'm not sure it would really accomplish anything since it's so dark in there anyway.

Someone suggested that maybe they are still experiencing some jet lag since they came from the east coast of the U.S. to the west coast, which is a 3-hour time difference. I counter that argument with: I know he didn't scream every night at 3:00 AM.

It's not like alarm-style screaming, so I don't think he's startled or scared. And the second night he did it Mango scolded him (probably told him to go back to sleep), haha. I've been 100% ignoring it, but does anybody else have experience with this? Any tips?

My umbrella made strange noises in the middle of the night for the first few weeks after he arrived. After he got comfortable in his new home, he stopped and never repeated the behavior.

I can tell you our SC2 has screamed a couple times late at night - I don't know the reason & it went away as quickly as it started.

I also know of a 'Too whose "unexplained" late night screams were connected with late night visits by a rat looking for fallen bird seed - his owner found the rat when she investigated one night - his screams definitely had a reason although until that moment, she thought they were random.

I reckon he needs time to adjust and settle down.
Remember they are new in their new environment whether it is dark or not.
Sure in a couple of days the screaming will stop.
